GLAM SKANKS @ THE REDWOOD BAR - LOS ANGELES, CA (07.01.17)

"Bottom line, these ladies know how to rock and are on a meteoric rise to becoming stars in their own right.  And don’t just take my word for it, get to a GLAM SKANKS show and experience it for yourself.  I guarantee you’ll be blown away by what you see, hear, and feel.  Definitely worth the price of admission, and glitter is included with every ticket."

On any given weekend, one can literally find hundreds of bands playing their hearts out in small bars and clubs across Southern California.  Many are virtually unknown, and most are playing to small audiences to expose their music to others with the hope of making it big one day.  The stark reality is that very few ever truly make it, and the ones that do are few and far between.  Sometimes it’s talent, sometimes it’s luck, but most often it’s simply dedication along with a killer work ethic.  For Hollywood based rockers, the GLAM SKANKS, it’s the later.  This all-female quartet has been turning heads and taking names since 2013, and are on a collision course with greatness in not-so-distant future.

For those who don’t know the GLAM SKANKS, the band is comprised of four knockout musicians – Ali on Vocals, Veronica on Guitar, Millie on Bass, and Cassie on Drums.  Together, they make up one of the most ferocious glam-rock bands on the circuit today.  Their music is fresh, their lyrics are catchy, and their stage-presence is second to none.  And when you add in their fiercely loyal fan base to the mix, expect the time of your life the moment you step foot into the pit at a GLAM SKANKS show.  It’s a “no-holds” barred evening of pure madness where dancing, singing, and of course glitter, is a mandatory part of every show.

I’ve had the chance to see GLAM SKANKS live twice this past year, and can tell you with 100% certainty that these ladies are the real deal.  My first experience seeing them live was at The Observatory – Orange County when they opened up for none-other than legendary 80’s heartthrob, ADAM ANT.  They belonged on that stage, and absolutely owned their set killing songs such as “G.L.A.M.”, “Tube Tops”, and “Glitter City”.  My favorite of the evening was “Bad Bitch”.  My second experience was at the much smaller Redwood Club in Downtown Los Angeles. Seeing as how they dominated that big stage, I was curious as how they would manage their infectious energy on much smaller one.  Well, Ali, Veronica, Millie, and Cassie dialed it up a notch and blew the doors completely off their hinges. For a little over an hour, the GLAM SKANKS put on a clinic for the capacity crowd in attendance.  Maybe it was the small stage, the confined space, or a combination of both, but I felt that the energy at this show was more infectious than the previous one I saw, and showcased how special these ladies actually are.

For those who have yet to experience GLAM SKANKS live, their punk-infused set is ultra-refreshing in a world where music is too often scripted and rehearsed.  I found myself captivated by Ali’s crisp vocals, Veronica’s amazing Guitar skill, Millie’s thundering Bass, and Cassie’s powerful drumming, and left the show wanting to hear more from this killer band OUT OF Los Angeles.  And if you listen closely to the lyrics and pay attention to their sound, you will hear some of the GLAM SKANKS major influences ring true within their music – DAVID BOWIE, T. REX, and for me personally, THE RUNAWAYS.  Not bad role-models if you ask me. Bottom line, these ladies know how to rock and are on a meteoric rise to becoming stars in their own right.  And don’t just take my word for it, get to a GLAM SKANKS show and experience it for yourself.  I guarantee you’ll be blown away by what you see, hear, and feel.  Definitely worth the price of admission, and glitter is included with every ticket.

Until next time!
