Sky Cries Mary is an American psych rock/cosmic music group from Seattle, Washington, formed in the late 1980s by Roderick Wolgamott and Ben Ireland.
Early band influences included European Industrial music bands like Einstürzende Neubauten, COIL, Test Department, and 1970’s glam/punk artists like Lou Reed, Iggy Pop, and David Bowie.
Notable band alumni include Jon Auer and Ken Stringfellow of The Posies, vocalist Anisa Romero, Michael Cozzi Shriekback, Jon ‘Juano’ Davison (later of Yes and Glass Hammer), and Gordon Raphael (producer for The Strokes).
In 2017, Jack Endino along with Curt Eckman (The Walkabouts), and Kevin Whitworth (Love Battery) joined the group. In September 2017, they headlined at Psychfest in Seattle. The band recorded several new songs, at Sound House with Jack Endino, who engineered Nirvana’s BLEACH, and Soundgarden’s Screaming Life.
Later in 2017, the band recorded a new album, Thieves and Sirens, which includes songs from their most recent collaborations and was just released digitally. A vinyl and CD release of Thieves and Sirens is coming later this year in support of their live appearances at major festivals across the country.
Hunnypot is proud to be Sky Cries Mary's official licensing agent, master and publishing. Focus tracks are "Ugly Stick", "Sirens", "War Song" and "Suitcase". "Can't Stand It" was written by Lou Reed. (Master Only).
