Climb aboard with Sweden's finest as they take listeners on an incredible journey that expands the mind and ravages one's soul across ten incredibly written tracks. A beautiful release and the perfect way to start 2019!"
As a kid I grew up listening to Korn and that was really what got me into the hard rock scene. It was something about the dark heavy hitting guitars, deep bass, and metal drums that gave me a rush. Evergrey, a band that was influenced by the sounds of Korn, Metallica, Iron Maiden, and more, really took their new album The Atlantic to the next level. From the first track all the way to the last, we get a real sense for the passion they put into their music. And don’t get me started on the musicianship – it’s phenomenal. Let’s dissect this work of art.
Tom Englund does a wonderful job at tying together his voice with the instruments in every song on the album. The soul you hear in his voice really pulls the listener in and grasps their attention. You can’t help but bob your head up and down while you listen to each track’s rolling melodies and heavy kicks. I really feel this in the song “End of Silence”. The rifts in the track are filthy and if I was able to experience it live, I think I would thoroughly enjoy every second of it.
You can really tell they took their time crafting this album into what they wanted it to be. Since their 2016 album The Storm Within, it seems they have been working hard on this release. They do a great job at differentiating each track, which can be hard to do sometimes when piecing together an album. What’s also impressive is how they build up each song in order to get to the heavy hitting parts – it’s wonderful. It’s impressive when a band is not afraid to try new and exciting things to make music they can appreciate and love.
Overall, I think this is a very unique and exciting release for the progressive/metal band from Gothenburg, Sweden. Never hearing them before, I was impressed throughout the whole album. Be on the lookout for them as they come to a city near you on their European tour.
