ALBUM REVIEW: VYBZ CARTEL - GOD & TIME

Written by

Vybz Kartel proves once again why he remains one of dancehall’s most influential and controversial figures with God & Time, an emotionally layered 14-track album released in June 2026. After debuting at number two on the iTunes Top Reggae Albums chart and landing at number six on the Billboard Reggae Albums chart, the project became another major moment in the World Boss’s remarkable career.

Its title draws upon the Jamaican phrase reminding us that faith and patience can overcome hardship - a message closely connected to Kartel’s journey, resilience, and return to the spotlight. Musically, the album moves among spiritual reflection, romance, celebration, and hard-hitting dancehall without becoming unfocused.

The title track opens with emotional melodies and a steady modern rhythm as Kartel reflects upon survival, destiny, patience, and faith. His focused, sincere delivery immediately establishes the album’s personal foundation.

“Soft Girl Era” turns toward romance through polished production and an accessible hook, allowing Kartel’s playful charisma to emerge. “Some Days” moves deeper, addressing pressure and life’s emotional highs and lows with raw honesty.

“Genie” carries a smooth, seductive energy as Kartel combines desire and swagger with the slick cadence longtime fans will recognize from his earlier work. Its infectious hook gives the song considerable replay value.

“Confession”, featuring Spice, is among the album’s best collaborations. Although Spice’s aggressive approach has not always been my preference, she fits this song extremely well. Her controlled, emotionally connected performance complements Kartel as they explore honesty, vulnerability, and relationship tension from different perspectives.

“Stay for the Night”, featuring Wizkid, blends dancehall with Afrobeats. Their chemistry feels effortless, with both artists gliding across the laid-back production on one of the album’s most globally accessible songs.

“Casi Casi” introduces reggaeton through Farruko, whose melodic delivery pairs naturally with Kartel’s confident flow. The collaboration demonstrates Kartel’s ability to explore international sounds without surrendering his dancehall identity.

“Panic”, featuring Shenseea, is another standout. Its old-school bounce meets polished modern production, while Shenseea’s melodic freshness works perfectly alongside Kartel. The result is one of the album’s most infectious tracks.

“Round & Round” rides a hypnotic rhythm as Kartel reflects upon repeating cycles in life, relationships, and success. “Try Again”, featuring Skillibeng, moves into darker street territory, bridging dancehall generations through sharp flows and commanding performances.

“Hype Life”, featuring Mavado, is easily one of the album’s biggest moments. Hearing the two dancehall giants together again feels both nostalgic and exciting. Their effortless chemistry, veteran presence, melody, and swagger turn the reunion into a genuine highlight.

“Dancehall Ting” returns to pure, high-energy dancehall through hard percussion and club-ready momentum. Kartel sounds completely at home, delivering punchlines and charisma that explain his continued dominance within the culture.

“Big Business” embraces his larger-than-life persona. Heavy bass and a polished groove support an anthem about ambition, status, and hustle, with Kartel’s commanding delivery keeping the energy high.

“Watch Over Me” closes the album by returning to its spiritual foundation. Over a slower rhythm, Kartel seeks protection and guidance while reflecting upon perseverance through hardship. The vulnerability in his performance gives the finale genuine emotional depth.

With God & Time, Vybz Kartel delivers his strongest and most complete body of work since leaving prison - and arguably his best project since before his incarceration. Reflection, vulnerability, romance, street energy, and classic dancehall swagger coexist without weakening the album’s focus.

The collaborations add international reach and stylistic variety, but Kartel remains firmly at the center through his sharp lyrics, melodic instincts, and unmistakable charisma. More than another successful release, God & Time feels like a personal statement and hard-earned celebration. After everything he has endured, the message comes through clearly: the World Boss is unquestionably back.
