G. Smith releases their first music video for the single “X”! This video visualizes emotional rollercoasters in the form of almost what can be perceived as an extreme interpretive dance. The singer/songwriter wanted to portray an end of a relationship lyrically but created progression toward a new beginning with production and composition of the song saying, “the lyrics cover the raw emotions of an end, but the drive and production seek to move towards a beginning”. The cinematography is exquisite along with the set design portraying the dream state that this song evokes. We would expect nothing less from this visual artist especially after her stunning performance on Hunnypot Live at The Mint!
G. Smith’s elegant vocals dance throughout the alternative electronic song’s dark beat. If you’re a fan of Phantogram or Purity Ring, G. Smith is sure to make the list! We interviewed G. Smith on our last Hunnypot Live and she even divulged some of the origin of the name: G. Smith! Listen to the live audio of the interview and her exhilarating performance HERE.

"Love and Hip Hop New York"'s Mariah Lynn is smashing her solo career and in the wake of her first single "Once Upon A Time", Mariah debuted a new single and video for "Money Gun" just last week.
Pretty young things aspire to embrace their basest desires by stealing cars, flaunting their goodies, and participating in a variety of girl-on-girl promiscuity, all with the mafiosal grace of the most elegant Real Housewive of New Jersey.
If this Video Pick's cover image and the above synopsis aren't enough indication, let me be clear: Spada & Elen Levon's international dance-pop smash hit "Cool Enough" is extremely sexy... almost too sexy... until you realize that's the point.
Despite coming across as a commercial for Europe's most prestigious barely legal sex factory (a tall order indeed), nestled deeply in the overt barrage of full-on sexuality that seemingly defines this video is an unexpected message: you'll never, ever, be cool enough, and the more earnestly you attempt to personify coolness incarnate, the more your soul is doomed to the deep abyss of the endless cycle of external validation.
But for real though - did you see that part where they licked that ice cream cone at the same time?!?!?
So hot bro.
So cool.
When PopMatters and Team Rock agree on something, it is cause for curiosity. In this case, the mystery is Prima Donna's new single "Deathless". Known for high-strung, heavily distorted, bulls on cocaine type energy the LA Rock scene mainstay has taken a nonchalantly wide turn towards proto-americana; a change in direction that's as refreshing as it is unexpected.
Written in a Spaniard hostel (because of course it was) and featuring a driving yet deftly danceable shoe gaze beat, "Deathless" feels like a winding, tumbleweed-laden dirt road in a Robert Rodriguez movie: while scorpions, banditos, and all kinds of precarious dangers most definitely lurk just beyond the horizon, Prima Donna is just too goddamn cool to care.
We're excited to share an upcoming single from headband aficionado Bobby Green: "Changing Me". Brought to our attention by our friends at Robbins Entertainment, the mellow pulse, soothing vocals, and smooth ambiance make this track a sexy late night tone-setter. Melbourne neo-soul artist Meg Mac has released this gorgeous one-take official video for her new hit single “Roll Up Your Sleeves” off her forthcoming debut EP MEGMAC slated for a September 12 release.
The Sydney native grew up listening to pop soul pioneers of Detroit and Memphis finding herself inspired by big voices laced with attitude and conviction. Meg Mac has cultivated and embodied these elements herself with an evident modern swagger. “Roll Up Your Sleeves” is a song about just that: rolling up your sleeves and having the confidence to make a change. Meg Mac’s confidence is apparent and empowering and translates both through her voice and on screen
“With the band’s catchy, emotive sound — equal parts dusty alt-country and lovelorn late ’90s alt-rock — we’re surprised debut EP track ‘Let Back’ isn’t as big a hit as ‘Pumped Up Kicks’.” –L.A. Times
“L.A.’s A House for Lions showed off a robust rock sound at Rusty’s on Wednesday, adding garage ferocity to the softer, ’90s-influenced alt-rock of debut EP ‘I Want Us to Be Remembered’. –Billboard.com
“They’re only just starting out but already they’re purring like a sleek machine with a human heart…seeing a band this good this early is a thing of wonder and ought to be celebrated.” – Gary Lightbody (Snow Patrol) – Q Magazine
“Purveyors of gorgeous anthemic rock” –-Kevin Bronson, BuzzBands.LA
THE LATEST: The band’s debut full-length album made with Grammy Award-winning producer Tom Biller (Silversun Pickups, Elliott Smith, Fiona Apple, Warpaint) will be released 06.24.14 on Randm Records, home to the cult status Lost Ark Studio. They made the album after successfully completing a DIY crowdfunding campaign that impressed the indie music world at large and attracted flattering press (includingan interview on NPR, Digital Music News, Tunecore, Hypebot) based on the innovative approach they took in bypassing Kickstarter and the other main crowdfunding platforms.
Daniel Norman, singer/songwriter of A House for Lions, was a music lover who never intended to become a musician. But while hitchhiking through Germany, a melody and a few words popped into his head and never left: “we’ll write a book worth reading!” – the first line of what would become the first song Daniel ever wrote and A House for Lions’ statement of purpose, “Let Back”. In that moment, he realized it might be possible to get off of the fence and create a project of his own; at least, it would be fun to try. Daniel had played guitar since he was a kid, but had no experience playing in a band. So he’d have to get better, (“we’ll pass the test, no cheating!”) but he’d also need to seek out kindred spirits to flesh-out the sound of his bare bones experiments.
In early 2010 he found just that in an unlikely group of strangers. Adding guitarist and designer Mike Nissen, bass player Eric McCann and drummer Joe Luisi, A House for Lions has developed a sound that according to The Deli Magazine “manages to blend the sleeker side of angsty 90s rock with the laid-back instrumentation and heart-string pulling melodies you might expect from an alt-country band”.
Within six months, the band had recorded their first EP I Want Us To Be Remembered, with LA producer Raymond Richards (Local Natives) and were off and running. From there the band garnered rave reviews from the LA Times and Billboard.com, made impressive debuts at CMJ and SXSW and established themselves as one of Los Angeles’ most promising young bands.
A House For Lions recently completed work on their debut full-length album with Grammy Award-winning producer Tom Biller (Silversun Pickups, Elliot Smith, Fiona Apple) after completing an innovative DIY crowdfunding campaign to fund the making of the album. By successfully bypassing the traditional crowdfunding platforms (Kickstarter, et al) and building their campaign from scratch, they’ve impressed the indie music world at large and attracted flattering press including an interview on NPR, articles fromDigital Music News, Hypebot and many others.
Not content to rest on any laurels, these brothers-in-arms remain dedicated to creating and sustaining a distinct vision in an uncertain musical landscape. “To all the new beginnings/to all the screws unspinning!”
