"What a Day For a Daydream!" On Saturday, June 5th, on a private farm in Wall Township, New Jersey, the next installment of the Daydream Farm Concert Series was in full swing. Taking the stage this week was Pink Talking Fish, a fusion tribute band blending all the amazing works of three epic bands including Pink Floyd, Talking Heads, and Phish (three bands have achieved legendary status in music history). The concept of PTF is to bring the fans of these beloved bands a blend of all three during their shows, putting their own unique twist to all the greatest hits and rarely played gems.
Daydream Farm Concert Series was the brainchild of Tara Stock, farm owner, linking up with local concert promoter Edward Maier of Elmthree Productions (a local promoter that brought the Jams on the Sand free concerts series the past few years on the beach in Asbury Park) . As we all know, Covid changed the world last year, and all concerts were canceled. As a result, towards the later part of 2020, Daydream Farms was born and became one of the first socially distanced, mask-wearing outdoor concert venue allowing music fans their first live music experience since the pandemic started. Now this being the second year and the pandemic calming down, the property has become a perfect spot to reconnect with old friends, make new ones, and experience live music again (minus the masks while adding in hugs all around). There are many amazing acts scheduled throughout the rest of the summer. Click here for all the info you need for your Daydream Farm experience. https://www.facebook.com/daydreamfarmnj/
Along with the Daydream Farm concert series, Tara recently created a non profit Daydream For Life. Here is a quote from her describing what it is in her own words, "This non profit is about is about saving lives!! Opiates are destroying lives of substance user and the people who love them and need them. We want to let people help is available. Reduce stigma, raise awareness and let people know help is available. Our non profit will be working with families and focusing with children who have been effected by parents with substance use disorder and also offer recovery coaching as well as finding healthy hobbies to find joy again and offering food that we grow to families in need of food!"
Now to the music! Pink Talking Fish features Eric Gould on bass, Richard James on keyboards, Zack Burwick on drums, and Cal Kehoe on guitar. The band was created by musicians who love the music of these acts, with a sole purpose of heightening people's passion for Pink Floyd, Talking Heads, and Phish. At the end of the day, they collectively created something fresh and exciting for fans while managing challenges associates with three unique styles of music. At the end of the day, PTF found a way to flow these bands and their songs together - mixing in oil, water, and a along with a tie-dyed sky that is no small feat (especially since each band has incredibly difficult tunes to play). Each musician within PTF brings their own exquisite musical styles together and does justice to their favorite bands. Being a tribute band is never easy, but these guys kill it and fail to miss a beat along the way. The emotion of Pink Floyd, The funky layers of Talking Heads, and the pure unadulterated fun of Phish, merge into one, giving music lovers a special and truly experience.
For fans, discovering connections within the music is also part of the fun: One example is Pink Floyd's "On The Run" seamlessly fitting in the middle of the composition of Phish's "You Enjoy Myself". Another is the perfect placement of Phish's "Sand" into the groove of Talking Head's "Slippery People". Segued collections from all three acts such as "Run Like Hell" > "Making Flippy Floppy" > "Piper" > "Run Like Hell or Mike's Song" > "Have A Cigar" > "Once In A Lifetime" > "Weekapaug Groove" are incredible and the true spirit behind Pink Talking Fish. At the end of the day, there were good times and great vibes for all throughout Pink Talking Fish's performance at Daydream Farm. This band is always evolving, changing their setlists, and learning new tunes from the band's immense catalogs. PTF performances bring to life old bust-outs along with greatest hits that everyone can sing and rock out to. Bottom line, they don't mess around. If you are a fan of any of these bands and they are coming into your city, definitely check them out. You won't be disappointed!
