On July 24th at Frogtown Brewery, idobi Radio hosted Fishmas, a pre-party celebration for Warped Tour. The event was filled with various people from the music industry, along with an ice cream truck and smash burgers. With top-tier artists performing, great food, and a spot to take pictures with your friends, what’s not to love? I didn’t catch the whole event, but I was lucky enough to be there for the sets by No Love For The Middle Child, Kami Kehoe, Will Pugh from Cartel, and Rose Colored World.
No Love For The Middle Child brought a lot of spunk to their performance. It was impressive to see the lead singer switch between various instruments, like the cello, while performing and still maintain the same high energy on stage. Their setlist included songs such as “Simple Things,” “See Through,” a cover of “Mr. Brightside” by The Killers, and “No Sleep.” During their cover of “Mr. Brightside,” they had the entire audience singing along. The cello parts added an elegant yet energetic vibe to the performance, creating a unique dynamic. No Love For The Middle Child’s music felt incredibly relatable and was the kind of sound you could easily get into after just hearing it live once.
Kami Kehoe performed a set that highlighted her incredible skills as a drummer. She played with such natural ease that anyone watching could tell she has a special talent. It was also refreshing to see how genuinely happy she is while playing drums. Even performing solo, she brought the energy of a full band. Her set included a cover of “Smells Like Teen Spirit” by Nirvana and her original song “Sleep When I’m Dead.” The performance had everyone hyped to catch her at Warped Tour, and her passion for music was infectious.
Following Kami,Will PughfromCarteltook the stage for an acoustic set. His music filled the entire space, even reaching areas further away, evoking feelings of nostalgia. Some of the songs he performed included “The Fortunate” and “Faster Ride.” "Faster Ride” has been a favorite of mine for a long time, so it immediately caught my attention. His acoustic set was mesmerizing, transporting the audience to more peaceful times. It was a heartfelt and intimate performance that left a lasting impression.
The final set of the night was byRose Colored World, and they immediately captured everyone’s attention. Every member of the band radiated confidence, performing on stage like they owned it. There were plenty of hair flips, and the lead singer even jumped into the pit during one of the songs. This is the kind of band that isn’t afraid to interact with their audience.During their song “All We Had,” they reminded the crowd to be present in the moment, to take a break from the chaos of the world, and just enjoy being there. It was a message I needed to hear, and I’m sure the rest of the audience felt the same.
They even brought guests on stage for their encore. The lead singer of Bowling For Soup made a grand entrance, bringing his witty sense of humor to the performance. He joined them for a rendition of “1985,” and when the lyrics mentioned Ozzy Osbourne, the band took a moment to honor the Prince of Darkness, who recently passed away. They followed this with an epic drum solo in his memory. The whole set was unforgettable, filled with energy, humor, and heartfelt moments.
The night as a whole was a beautiful reminder that we’re all connected in this music community. It doesn’t matter your status or how famous someone is—music brings us all together. I’m excited to see what these artists do next, and Fishmas was the perfect pre-party to prepare for the beginning of Warped Tour
