There are those people who are truly talented in multiple ventures. Taylor Momsen is one of those people. From breaking into mainstream media as Cindy Lou Who in the 2000 film How the Grinch Stole Christmas, she went on to act in multiple seasons of the critically acclaimed TV series Gossip Girl. She eventually left the latter to pursue a career in the music industry, having formed the band The Pretty Reckless in 2009. The Pretty Reckless have produced many chart-topping singles across their nearly two-decade run so far. They hit the road again in support of their newest album Dear God, and that road brought them to a sold-out show at The Wiltern in Los Angeles, CA. Fans rejoiced to have The Pretty Reckless back in town, as they haven't headlined a tour in about three years. They packed the house early, eager to enjoy their night.

Opening the show was the band known as doug., and though they may have a simple name, once they took the stage their sound spoke for itself. Classifying themselves as punk rock, their tone carried a heavy foundation to it. Vocalist and guitarist Alex Paquin had a Lemmy aspect to himself, sing-screaming the lyrics into a mic that was almost positioned too high for him. You could feel the rage and intensity coming from those screams. Lead guitarist Ben Lebeau, bassist Evan Paquin, and drummer Lucas Turner backed up Alex with fast-paced punk sounds that, if this had been their headlining show, would have had fans crowd surfing and stage diving the entire time. Though this was a harder sound than what fans may have been expecting from the opening band, doug. managed to get the crowd moving to warm them up for our headliner.

It was then time for The Pretty Reckless to take the stage, opening their set with "Death by Rock and Roll." Within the first verses of the song, fans were already filling the theatre with the reverberations of their voices as they sang along with Taylor Momsen. Momsen is a captivating frontwoman with a hard-hitting rock style singing voice, filled with grit and tenacity. She mixes this with a sexual energy that steals the gaze of every person, man or woman, in the room. You can't help but follow her around the stage, whether she is just standing and singing, running across the stage, or dancing in a provocative manner against the drum kit. Momsen is the only person who anyone cares about at that moment.

The fans ate up every second of the show, giving all their desire and love to the band (some giving their lust), and Momsen wanted to make sure the fans felt appreciated. Multiple times she jumped down into the security pit to get up close and personal with the crowd. She even jumped on the barricade, grabbed one of the fans by the face, and sang right to them, creating an intimate moment they will never forget.

Though Momsen is the standout of the band, The Pretty Reckless is more than just their lead singer. Guitarist Ben Phillips, bassist Mark Damon, and drummer Jamie Perkins bring the hard rock instrumental sound to each song. Though Momsen has our eyes and ears wrapped around her, the band is what has our bodies rocking out, headbanging, and grooving to the music. During "Heaven Knows," Momsen took a moment to run off stage and truly give her band the moment to shine that they deserved. Phillips and Damon even had a shoving match at the front of the stage as they jokingly jockeyed for the spotlight while playing through their solos.

The Pretty Reckless gave us many songs from Dear God mixed in with the fan favorites from the rest of their discography, featuring songs like "Since You're Gone," "Follow Me Down," "Miss Nothing," "For I Am Death," "When I Wake Up," "Love Me," "Devil in Disguise (Michelle's Song)," "Dear God," "Spell on You," "Make Me Wanna Die," and "Going to Hell," before coming back for a one-song encore of "About You," which featured a surprise appearance by Pat Smear on guitar.

The Pretty Reckless do not headline very often, so fans had to take in every second of this show that they could, and the wait since their last headlining tour was worth it. Five albums in, they are continuing to put out solid music that continues to be loved by fans. Taylor Momsen herself has been labeled a goth queen in the music industry, and is inspiring to many fans who decided to dress up in her previous stage outfits. The Pretty Reckless has a very diehard fan base who continue to show up in support of the band, and though we wish they would tour more consistently, we will cherish any chance we get to see them live.
