Hunnypot Does...

Next Monday night (8-18-14) there is no Hunnypot Radio Show, but that's no reason to stay at home & Netflick the night away - oh no, no, no! See our friends THE BEACHES are coming from north of the border to bring the mystery of Canadian Rock to Hotel Cafe. They recently signed with Island records, so if you want to say that you saw them before they got big, now might be your only chance.

HOBART W FINK has risen through the ranks of the Los Angeles music scene at an incredibly fast rate. In what seems like the blink of an eye they have gone from newcomers to veterans without losing any of their hunger.

As if that were not enough, they are celebrating their debut album's release with a residency at Los Feliz hotspot Harvard & Stone. Be sure to catch them every Tuesday  (5th, 12th, 19th, 26th) and pick up a copy of their debut LP which was recorded and mixed by Chris Kasych (Wavves, Phantogram, Vampire Weekend, Haim, P!nk, Santigold) on a vintage ’74 Neve board and mastered by Alex DeYoung (Macy Gray, NOFX, Pennywise).

The lovely, lovely Yael Mayer released the official video for her single Warrior Heart earlier this week.  In typical Yael fashion, it’s bright and colorful. The video features Yael on a kind of journey through this beautiful, animated neon world.  Neon lights illustrate the nuances of the song, almost like light painting.  Warrior Heart is the title track off of her 3th album due September 16th on KLI records.

jef joslin

JEF JOSLIN

Now in Venice Beach, Joslin has truly narrowed in on his “California Soul” sound. On any given day you can find him serenading drifters along the Venice boardwalk and see people of all shapes and sizes dancing along to his mellow rhythm. Playing songs from his latest release, Come Out West, a blend of Stevie Wonder’s Motown groove, dripping with Brian Wilson-esque harmonic arrangements, he has encapsulated the feel good, California sunshine music he always dreamed of making. To top it all off, Joslin produced, wrote, mixed and mastered the entire album. He even designed the album artwork.

Somehow in the midst of all this he still finds time for one more dream. “I always wanted to be a Beach Boy: live by the beach on the west coast, play music, create art and surf…I’m doing all that and more now. Anything from here is just icing on the cake.” From one dream to the next, Joslin’s art explores the idea of life as an adventure, love, and the pursuit of meaningful relationships in hopes that it’ll inspire you to experience life the same way.

MATT VON RODERICK

He rocks the trumpet. He sings. He writes songs. Classic. Cutting-edge. Raw. Emotional. A product of the vigorous New York City arts scene, Matt made his Carnegie Hall main stage debut as featured guest soloist with the New York Pops Orchestra through the invitation of Skitch Henderson, and was named top Jazz Artist by the Independent Music Awards as judged by rock music icon Lou Reed. Matt creates what All About Jazz calls “an other-worldly sound…something of a tour de force, he sings, plays, and uses his voice as a muted horn in a solo and duet with the trumpet…

Melbourne neo-soul artist Meg Mac has released this gorgeous one-take official video for her new hit single “Roll Up Your Sleeves” off her forthcoming debut EP MEGMAC slated for a September 12 release.

The Sydney native grew up listening to pop soul pioneers of Detroit and Memphis finding herself inspired by big voices laced with attitude and conviction. Meg Mac has cultivated and embodied these elements herself with an evident modern swagger. “Roll Up Your Sleeves” is a song about just that: rolling up your sleeves and having the confidence to make a change. Meg Mac’s confidence is apparent and empowering and translates both through her voice and on screen
