Hot Tub Johnnie and the HP Radio crew strapped on their cowboy boots and turned up the twang last week at The Mint our special Hunnypot Goes Country show. Hot Tub Johnnie treated us to some classic country nuggets by Conway Twitty, Johnny Cash, Waylon Jennings, Dwight Yoakam and many many more classic country legends.
Our special guest DJ for the night was none other than longtime country music enthusiast and renowned music publsiher, Randy Poe. Mr. Poe sat down for an extensive interview to talk about his new book Buck ‘Em! The Autobiography of Buck Owens and to spin a curated collection of classicc from the Buck Owens catalogue. Included in his set were timeless songs like "Act Naturally", "Big In Vegas", "Cryin' Time" and many more.
Hunnypot favorite and award winning country artist/songwriter, Jeffrey Steele was next to step in the Hot Tub. Jeffrey sat down with longtime friend Hot Tub Johnnie for a special interview that spanned Steele's prolific carreer coming up as a Hillbilly in Burbank, California all the way through many of his award winning milestones as a country artist and songwriter. After the interview Jeffrey treated us to a heartfelt solo performance where he performed many of his hits. Including his number one smash "What Hurts The Most" by Rascal Flatts and many more.
Closing out the night was Grammy Award winning country-pop singer-songwriter, Rebecca Lynn Howard. Rebecca performed a brilliant stripped down acoustic set featuring her penchant deep-rooted, front porch styled country pop songs.
Huge thanks to everyone that came out to support, perform, and both the The Mint and Hunnypot crews. We couldn’t make it all happen without each and every one of you! 02/24/2014
Rebecca Lynn Howard (artist/songwriter) Interview
A Hunnypot favorite, Nicole Millar has joined forces with Peking Duk for this down-tempo indie dance anthem. The track recently hit number one on Australias Triple J radio. The video follows the main character into the woods where he meets with fellow fur and paint clad friends who fight, scream and play with each other. Well worth a peek. For you locals, Peking Duk is playing the Aussie BBQ at The Bootleg this Sunday along with a ton of other great Aussie artists.
In honor of Canada's Olympic Gold in Hockey, which no doubt led to some amazing partying/borderline-riots, we bring you some of the finest music from America's favorite upstairs neighbor. We have become fast fans of this foreign fellowship, and are excited to introduce them to an American audience. Head of the Herd mixes power, vigor, and suave badassery like weary gunslingers with golden hearts. The first single off their second full release "By This Time Tomorrow" walks the tightrope between Modern Boulevard and Vintage Road with grit and surprising vulnerability. For more on these Vancouver-based up-and-comers check out their website. Shout out to Mother Mother's Jasmin Parker on her guest appearance!
Armed with Childish Gambino level satire and Cash Money level production, the Bare Handed Bear Handlers have hit the NOLA scene running. Fresh off a recent win for Best Comedy Video at the New Orleans Comedy Arts Festival, this nonsensical yet surprisingly sharp group has more than just good timing, a unique style, and a penchant for the profane… they have balls. Saggy balls.
The Dollyrots have been very busy bunnies, birthing both literal and musical babies. After an amazingly successful crowd fund through Pledge Music, their fifth album, Barefoot & Pregnant officially releases this Tuesday Feb. 25 on none other than Hunnypot Records. In celebration, they hosted an amazing record release party at The Satellite 2/20/14. Links to purchase the album are below, Here's to another 14 years of pop-punk! Cheers!
A favorite amongst Hunnypotters, The Preatures have treated us with another single off their highly anticipated debut album due out later this year. Following their single Is This How You Feel, Better Than It Ever Could Be is equally as infectiously poppy and just catchy as hell. The video throws you back to the 80's complete with 3D visuals and Space Invaders (the video game). The Preatures will be joining a slew of fellow Australian artists at SXSW as well as Coachella and maybe your local music festival too so keep an eye out.
We're proud to announce that two of our newest acts have been nominated by LA Weekly to contend for the title of Best Live Band in Los Angeles! Whether you prefer the master-crafted melodies of King Washington or the no-holds-barred hard-rock fury of Prima Donna, we have no doubt that both bands are deserving of this honor.
