Film/Music Panel: Sound Decisions: A Reality Check on Using Music in Film
Time: 11 a.m.; Room: 16AB; Austin Convention Center
Open to SXSW badge-holders only
Film music drives audience emotions, and individual scenes can be defined by a particular song or music cue. Essential as it is, film music is often under budgeted and misunderstood. Hosted by BMI, this roundtable discussion will explore effective tactics for finding a film’s sound as well as the practical realities for licensing source material.
Moderated by Doreen Ringer Ross, BMI Vice President, Film/TV Relations, the panel will feature insight from Greenlitdirector Miranda Bailey and composer Craig Richey; music supervisor Tom Villano (Greenlit); Wake director Chad Feehan and composer Daniel Licht; BMI songwriter, recording artist and actor Michael Des Barres; music producer/songwriter Kim Fowley (The Runaways); John Anderson, CEO Hunnypot Unlimited; music supervisor G. Marq Roswell (The Great Debaters); and Kick Αss composer Ilan Eshkeri.
