Slay Squad - SEISHIN

I just had my first taste of Slay Squad via the recently released video for "Seishin" and it absolutely kills. They call their sound "Ghetto Metal", but truth be told its nothing short of 100% fire and definitely one that grows on you from the very first listen.  And in a world full of the same ole' same 'ole, their sound is radically different (and that is a good thing!)  I'm definitely adding this one to my playlist and look forward to experiencing them LIVE in the not so distant future.  Crank it up fuckers!!!

Check out some excerpts from a recent press release to learn more about Slay Squad and "Seishin":

Friday, October 22nd, 2021 - SLAY SQUAD, one of the most exciting and unique forces currently making waves in the world of heavy music, have dropped brand new track, "Seishin", today with an official accompanying music video shot, directed and edited by the group's own Brahim Gouse and featuring live footage from one of their incendiary live shows.

Equal parts radical art collective and hardcore punk band. SLAY SQUAD is comprised of a tightly knit but ruggedly individualistic brotherhood of visionary provocateurs, rhyme-slingers, beatmakers, video producers, metalcore shredders, bare-knuckle fighters, and street philosophers. Completely DIY to this day, the group came together as teenagers and built a rock-solid foundation around a multitude of shared interests, including hip-hop, metal, photography, and skating.

Today's new track, "Seishin" is a perfect example of the band's unique and stylistically diverse sound that they refer to as "ghetto metal". "Seishin" exhibits the very best of this genre melting pot - savagely heavy beatdowns and ferociously gutteral screams combine seamlessly with slick, modern rap and trap elements creating authentic almost undefinable art that is both fresh and dangerously exhilarating. Stream "Seishin" here and watch the video here or by clicking the image below.

Speaking on their latest release, SLAY SQUAD share:

"Seishin is the Japanese word for Sprit. This song is an expression of empowerment, of trust of self vs external influence, of how we, as melanated people, gotta know what's really inside of us and trust the perfection that exists within. An expression of our Spirit. We are designed perfectly in our own image, why the fuck would we want to be like anyone else?  One's environment sculpts one and can indirectly cause you to carry yourself a certain way if you've been subject to rough situations. We won't fall for these evils and influences we're subjected to. The music video shows us comfortably playing through the fires of the 'evils' we're subjected to. Maintaining our trust of self. Maintaining our Spirit."

  • MILLY - "Bittersweet Mary"
MILLY - "Bittersweet Mary" “I think about death all the time.” Almost ironic for someone called Brendan Dyer. Principal songwriter and singer of the indie rock, shoegaze band MILLY, Dyer lays his hushed vocals over a bed of heavy guitar riffs while singing about both love and death. In their freshly released third LP… Read more

DREAM THEATER, NIGHT TERROR When the video for "Night Terror" was released, I did myself the injustice of reading a ton of related social media posts prior to listening to the track out right.
