Hunnypot’s John Anderson has been advocating for The BellRays for decades. In honor of the new record release Heavy Steady Go! we are going to celebrate Lisa and Bob by sharing their words on the new album.
“Originating from Riverside, California, the BellRays have been mixing punk, rock and soul with the unique authenticity that has made them who they are in today. “We created a band and music based on what we love.” – explains Lisa Kekaula and Robert Vennum, the founding members of The BellRays. The tradition that the band continued over the last thirty years inspired them to infuse their influences. It’s in their DNA. The sound can be described by one simple formula: Emotion + energy = excitement. Their latest album, Heavy Steady Go! strictly follows this rule but also, provides new coloring and shades to the well-beloved formula. “We’ve heard ourselves described by some variation as ‘Tina Turner fronting AC/DC’ or ‘Motorhead meets Aretha Franklin’ which comes with an expectation to be that every time.” – explains Robert Vennum. “We are expected to be something that does not exist.”
According to Lisa Kekaula: “We stand apart and reactions like ‘not punk enough’, ‘not rock enough’, and ‘THAT’S not soul’ only fuel us more. We revel in our fearlessness to share what’s in our heads and hearts whether it’s understood or not. The most important thing is that we believe what we write and what we play. Our songwriting comes from a place that’s really deep and wide and in Heavy Steady Go! We realized that what we had created came from the impact point of this crater.”
This recording is split by two cities, two years, and two badass rhythm sections: Mark Cisneros (bass) and Ron Miller (drums) both from Kid Congo & The Pink Monkey Birds in Tucson, AZ, and later the return of past drummer Craig Waters (Cody Chestnut, Andre Williams, the Countdowns) and newest arrival, Nico Miles on bass recording in Riverside, CA produced by Lisa and Robert. Heavy Steady Go! is described by the two as ‘a festival in album form’. It’s contrasting style mashups and musical collaborations between each quartet is powerfully concentrated rock and roll.” Robert and Lisa explain that with these songs “we pay homage to Tom Petty, Bon Scott, Fleetwood Mac, Howlin’ Wolf, Cheap Trick, Betty Davis, and dozens of others that inspired this album. We wrote and crafted these songs looking at ourselves through the lens of the iconic sounds we heard growing up
Coming out August 30, 2024, ‘Heavy Steady Go!” will be released ahead of the upcoming U.S. and Canadian tour-dates with Social Distortion.

Emerging from the vibrant heart of Miami, Florida, 19MIL is carving a distinctive niche in the music landscape. With her signature goth R&B POP sound- characterized by captivating vocals, powerful production, and a mesmerizing tone- she’s not just making music, but crafting sonic masterpieces that resonate with a generation.
Although she’s been on the music scene for just over a year 19MIL’s journey into the realm of music was a serendipitous one. It was an influential figure, now absent from her life, who introduced her to the industry, and this gesture of destiny is something she will forever cherish. While 19MIL has a penchant for artists like Lil Peep, Yeat, and Lil Uzi Vert, she doesn’t often veer toward female artists. However, she unabashedly admits to being a die-hard fan of Billie Eilish.
Originally from the serene beach town of Treasure Island, Florida, where the music scene is predominately dominated by beach bar bands delivering covers, 19MIL stands out as a beacon of originality. To her, music composition is no less than a herculean task. From finding the right lyrics and crafting harmonious rhythms to delving deep into the myriad layers of production, every step presents its challenges. Yet, she persists, driven by the desire to be sure her message is conveyed accurately.
For 19MIL, music is more than just a creative outlet - it's a means to connect. Her core mission in producing music is to resonate with her listeners, to let them know they’re not alone in their feelings. She aspires to be a voice of reason, reassuring her audience that shared experiences are universal, and its okay to stand out. “You can be the light in a dark place,” she proclaims, emphasizing the need to persist through challenges.
Currently, her energies are laser-focused on refining her distinctive sound and releasing a slue of singles. Among them, the latest is “Deep End.” A visual and auditory treat, this track is more than just a song - its an emotion. Whether listeners are seeking solace in their room or cruising with the top down on a freeway, “Deep End” promises an immersive experience, an intricate blend of emotions and melodies that beacon listeners to hit repeat.
Hunnypot is proud to be 19MIL's official sync representative, ask us about LICENSING!

Join us on November 13th for interviews (like the original Hunnypot Radio show 3 years later), networking, reminiscing and of course, party DJ sets by PJ BLOOM, THOMAS GOLUBIC´ & HOT TUB JOHNNIE.

Hailing from California, Filipino-American artist Lisa Danaë has long been a powerhouse vocalist in the music industry. Lisa’s journey began as a young girl when she found solace in pop industry powerhouses Christina Aguilera, Britney Spears and Justin Timberlake. As she grew as an artist, Lisa’s goal became to spread her story of growth and empowerment through the same powerful pop hooks and unfeigned, timeless lyrics that she grew up listening to. Her ability to pay tribute to the late 90’s/Y2K pop movement while still honoring her musical tenor in R&B birthed her transition and curation of “dark pop” where she takes deep sound to balance and challenge the uplifting lyricism and vocal tenor to create and addictive genre blend.

It's a grassroots multi-genre musical and artistic movement that shines a spotlight on emerging musicians from Southern California and beyond.
What sets them apart is their commitment to breaking free from genre constraints, giving artists from diverse backgrounds the chance to connect and collaborate. Their success stems from sheer determination and the boundless creativity of their diverse team.
Every year, they host the legendary Moonlight Mirage music festival, where House, Bass, Hip-Hop, and Rock and Roll artists come together on two mind-blowing stages. It's a genre-blurring experience you won't find anywhere else, and it's a must-attend event.
But that's not all. Aux & Mic is one of the experiential offerings created to expand and fortify the Lowbtk Floater, The Bass District, and Moonlight Mirage collectives.

Raised in Potomac, Maryland, Jessica Carter Altman was surrounded by a strong and supportive family. Her mother, the legendary Lynda Carter, helped build a steadfast sense of self in the singer and her father, Robert A. Altman instilled a love for law and philanthropy. Wrapped in an insatiable well of creativity and public service, Jessica followed along in her father’s footsteps, starting a law career after graduating from the University of Michigan Law School. Her desire to help others and be a voice for those who are often silenced propelled Jessica into a successful and impactful imprint at Gibson Dunn — only to realize in 2020 that she felt like her actions spoke louder through the words she’d lace together in song.
Understanding Jessica’s childhood passion for music is another key to understanding just why, despite her profound respect for the legal profession, she had to shift gears and pursue her career full-time. She has fond childhood memories of listening to everything from popular bands of the 90’s to Nina Simone, Etta James, The Rolling Stones, Mary Chapin-Carpenter and Trisha Yearwood and pulls from an eclectic catalog of musical influences including Billie Holliday, Amy Winehouse, and Boygenius to name a few.
Jessica’s music exposes some of the deepest and most difficult human emotions but does so wrapped in warmth, allowing the listener to approach these feelings head-on and embrace them alongside her. The singer evokes the feeling of having a private conversation with her audience, bridging the gap between artistry and humanity that resonates with the many layers of living that exist.

Fencer, the self-defined garage opera band, is leading a new era of rock music with their own undeniably, dynamic sound. The Los Angeles-based trio comprises vocalist and guitarist Field Cate, bassist Scott Sauve, and drummer Cameron Sauve. Only two years after their inception, they became fan-favorite openers for notable acts such as Badflower, The Wrecks, and Dead Poet Society.
Tackling the stigma surrounding mental health and its struggles, Field’s emotive and frenetic vulnerability resonates with listeners to further solidify the band’s electric presence. The trio have racked up an impressive 2 million listens across all streaming platforms, despite having not even released their debut album. Field’s synesthesia (seeing music in color), Scott’s vigorous bass lines, and Cameron’s expertise in self-producing flow together to create an eccentric style that is certain to become rock’s newest novelty.

Somewhere at the intersection of Power Electronics, Dark Hip-Hop, and Neo-Nü Metal resides musician and performance artist TRICKY YOUTH. Just as difficult as it is to place Tricky Youth in one place on the map sonically, it is geographically as well - he grew up in Brooklyn, New York; he currently resides in Los Angeles; he calls the American Midwest his “spiritual home”. If you were to ask him, Tricky would call himself a “citizen of the American underground”, a place that isn’t so much one location but many, and a wide network of communities that he has existed in since he was a teenager. “The basement show, the warehouse rave, the generator show under the bridge, the art show in some abandoned building with a stage built in it and 20 people living there,” Youth says. “That’s where I got my upbringing, around brilliant artists in the worlds of punk, noise, and hip-hop, freely expressing themselves as outside of capitalism as they could and forming communities that sought to live by an ethos that rejected the dominant culture. I carry that through the art I make today."
