Mystical Joyride releases a new remix of their single "Gotta Do Me" featuring rapper Sri Kala.

The band has been featured within the Ecstatic Dance community and played at such Festivals as Lightning in Bottle, Soulplay, and Love Long Beach, as well as featured vocalists like superstar Aloe Blacc and Ghanaian reggae/afro beats artist Rocky Dawuni. They just released their new afro/Indian-house-tinged album House Magic featuring more amazing global artists like QVLNEvan Hatfield, and Gingee. They provide an unforgettable live experience with positive messaging and dancy vibes.

Mystical Joyride is the genre-fluid Psychedelic World Pop band flying their spaceship between the spiritual and the ratchet; formed in 2015 by married couple Leah and Joel Van Dijk, the band sought to explore Leah’s existential questions with the Wizardry of Joel’s production skills. Leah, born of the musical legacy of The Commodores, and Joel (guitarist for Aloe Blacc and producer for many) put their sounds together to form this new identity.

After their first EP, they added the sensational Bengali singer Arzeen to the band after having him feature on a few of their records and loving the results. Their live set combines electronic music with live instrumentation, sometimes as a duo and sometimes as an ensemble of Joyriders. Mystical Joyride is an experience of contemplation, meditation, and straight-up shaking that ass.

Hunnypot has been bringing music and culture together for 25 years, and over the years, we've thrown some unforgettable parties. Hunnypot Live has produced over 500 shows, bringing incredible artists to the stage for a quarter century. As part of our Best of Hunnypot Live series for our 25-year anniversary, we’re highlighting some of our favorite artists who have graced the stage.

This live footage comes from Show #316 on May, 18 2015, featuring dynamic performer, powerhouse singer and stellar guitar player Jaime Wyatt, singing her original "Stone Hotel" from her 2017 album "Felony Blues".

“A lot of us grow up feeling like we have to hide who we are just to be accepted,” Wyatt reflects, “but that comes from a place of fear and judgment. Sometimes we need a little extra help to let go of all the guilt and shame and pain we carry. Sometimes we need a reminder to be kind to ourselves and each other.”

Hailed by Pitchfork as one of the “most exciting and skillful storytellers” working today, Jaime Wyatt is the kind of generational talent whose raw, honest lyricism is matched only by the power of her huge, unmistakable voice. Wyatt first began turning heads with her breakout 2017 debut, Felony Blues, which chronicled her now much-publicized battle with addiction and transformative journey through the criminal justice system. Wyatt’s 2020 follow-up, Neon Cross, tackled even more profoundly personal revelations. Both records arrived to universal acclaim, with NPR praising Wyatt’s “remarkable voice” and Rolling Stone lauding her “lush, layered, and complex” performances.

Hunnypot Live has produced over 500 shows, bringing incredible artists to the stage for a quarter century. As part of our Best of Hunnypot Live series for our 25-year anniversary, we’re highlighting some of our favorite artists who have graced the stage.

This live footage comes from Show #400 on September, 17 2018, featuring rapper Kemo the Blaxican from the Lower East Side of Los Angeles, who is also an original member of Los Angeles-based Hip-Hop group Delinquent Habits. In this video, Kemo The Blaxican performs four incredible songs from his catalogue, including:

"Random Thoughts" (0:04-2:17)

"Lcl (Left Coast Latino)" (3:21-5:30)

"Tres Delinquentes" (Delinquent Habits) (5:38-7:04)

Kemo The Blaxican is equipped with a soulful style bilingual rhymes and profound lyrical content. You hear the smooth-yet-powerful baritone vocals delivered with a distinctive tone. You recognize the voice as it commands attention with provocative lyrics over flavorful tracks. This MC shifts the rhyme from English to Spanish, and then back to English again seamlessly. Your head nods the whole way through.

This live footage comes from Show #360 on February, 20 2017, featuring North by North, a two-piece garage/pop band from Chicago, IL.

North by North's surf-inspired rock & roll conjures images of catching waves off the Hawaiian coast all day before chasing the sun and sand with a swanky cabaret-club nightcap. They start from a foundation that channels bands like The Black Keys & The White Stripes, but quickly set themselves apart by adding adventurous, esoteric instrumentation—from cello and trumpet to tack piano. They have an uncanny ability to blend blues, surf and cabaret into a heady rock & roll stew.

"'Silver Tooth and Shadowplay'" is a merging of fringe cultures. ... Remember that Hanna Barbara cartoon that had a guy that drag raced in hearse? This is the soundtrack to that." - Punk News

As part of our Best of Hunnypot Live series for our 25-year anniversary, we’re highlighting some of our favorite artists who have graced the stage.

This live footage comes from Show #425 on September, 16 2019, featuring Chuck Wright, one of the most sought-after bass players, best known as a member of multi-platinum heavy metal band Quiet Riot.

Wright's career in mainstream rock first took off when he joined Giuffria in 1984. Their debut album Giuffria peaked at #26 on the Billboard album charts on March 2, 1985. The album spawned two hit singles, "Call to the Heart" (Hot 100 #15) and "Lonely In Love" (Hot 100 #57). After sold-out arena tours with Deep Purple and Foreigner, Wright left Giuffria to re-join Quiet Riot in 1986, replacing Rudy Sarzo, recording and writing songs for their QRIII release and supporting world tour.

His reputation as one of the most sought-after bass players has landed him gigs with such music icons as Alice Cooper, Slash, Gregg Allman, Carmine Appice, Ronnie Montrose, John Waite, and Pat Travers. Wright has appeared on over 90 worldwide record releases, playing bass and producing albums of various styles, including ambient trance, reggae, rap, country and rock. He has toured all over the world, performing in North America, Europe, Russia and the Far East.

He was also directly involved in seven film scores, most notably being the Universal Studios film release Kull the Conqueror, where he was joined by Guns N' Roses drummer Matt Sorum and the London Philharmonic Orchestra. Over the years, Wright also worked with House Of Lords, Bad Moon Rising, Blackthorne, Christian Tolle Project, Doro, Impellitteri, Kuni, MSG, Magdalen, Murderer's Row, Pata, Stephen Pearcy, Adler's Appetite, Love/Hate, Ken Tamplin, Shane Gibson from Korn, and has recorded various tribute albums with many other luminaries. Wright has headed up “Ultimate Jam Night,” a long-running live music show since January 2015 at the Whisky A Go Go in Hollywood. Now a popular Sunset Strip fixture, “Ultimate Jam Night” features up to 60 pro musicians each week.

As part of our Best of Hunnypot Live series for our 25-year anniversary, we’re highlighting some of our favorite artists who have graced the stage.

This live footage comes from Show #296 on July, 28 2014, featuring the genre-bending rapper Boyfriend, known for her bold lyrics and high-energy performances.

Boyfriend, the "mysterious, raunchy, feminist rapper" as described by NPR, has taken her special brand of "campy rap antagonism" (LA Times), "high-concept booty bass" (Rolling Stone), and "candy-coated cultural criticism" (Nasty Gal) to stages across the globe.

Boyfriend is a songwriter (Charli XCX, Slayyyter), producer (Rebecca Black, Jon Batiste) and performer (“5 Best Things That Happened at Outside Lands” – Rolling Stone and featured in Sony Pictures’ Grammy-Award winning Jazz Fest documentary).

The Nashville-born and New Orleans-based artist is featured opposite Lil Wayne and longtime collaborator Big Freedia, on the song “El Niño (feat. Lil Wayne & Boyfriend)”, off of Freedia’s 2023 album Central City. The single follows Boyfriend’s debut project, Sugar & Spice, which features the likes of the global feminist-art collective Pussy Riot, award-winning T-Pop artist Pyra, and LGBTQ-icon Amanda Lepore. The album peaked in the top 70 on the NACC College Radio Charts and landed placements with Netflix, HBO, and Apple, to name a few.

Hunnypots John Anderson has been advocating for The BellRays for decades. In honor of the new record release Heavy Steady Go! we are going to celebrate Lisa and Bob by sharing their words on the new album.

“Originating from Riverside, California, the BellRays have been mixing punk, rock and soul with the unique authenticity that has made them who they are in today. “We created a band and music based on what we love.” – explains Lisa Kekaula and Robert Vennum, the founding members of The BellRays. The tradition that the band continued over the last thirty years inspired them to infuse their influences. It’s in their DNA. The sound can be described by one simple formula: Emotion + energy = excitement. Their latest album, Heavy Steady Go! strictly follows this rule but also, provides new coloring and shades to the well-beloved formula. “We’ve heard ourselves described by some variation as ‘Tina Turner fronting AC/DC’ or ‘Motorhead meets Aretha Franklin’ which comes with an expectation to be that every time.” – explains Robert Vennum. “We are expected to be something that does not exist.”

According to Lisa Kekaula: “We stand apart and reactions like ‘not punk enough’, ‘not rock enough’, and ‘THAT’S not soul’ only fuel us more. We revel in our fearlessness to share what’s in our heads and hearts whether it’s understood or not. The most important thing is that we believe what we write and what we play. Our songwriting comes from a place that’s really deep and wide and in Heavy Steady Go! We realized that what we had created came from the impact point of this crater.”

This recording is split by two cities, two years, and two badass rhythm sections: Mark Cisneros (bass) and Ron Miller (drums) both from Kid Congo & The Pink Monkey Birds in Tucson, AZ, and later the return of past drummer Craig Waters (Cody Chestnut, Andre Williams, the Countdowns) and newest arrival, Nico Miles on bass recording in Riverside, CA produced by Lisa and Robert. Heavy Steady Go! is described by the two as ‘a festival in album form’. It’s contrasting style mashups and musical collaborations between each quartet is powerfully concentrated rock and roll.” Robert and Lisa explain that with these songs “we pay homage to Tom Petty, Bon Scott, Fleetwood Mac, Howlin’ Wolf, Cheap Trick, Betty Davis, and dozens of others that inspired this album. We wrote and crafted these songs looking at ourselves through the lens of the iconic sounds we heard growing up

Coming out August 30, 2024, ‘Heavy Steady Go!” will be released ahead of the upcoming U.S. and Canadian tour-dates with Social Distortion

Emerging from the vibrant heart of Miami, Florida, 19MIL is carving a distinctive niche in the music landscape. With her signature goth R&B POP sound- characterized by captivating vocals, powerful production, and a mesmerizing tone- she’s not just making music, but crafting sonic masterpieces that resonate with a generation.

Although she’s been on the music scene for just over a year 19MIL’s journey into the realm of music was a serendipitous one. It was an influential figure, now absent from her life, who introduced her to the industry, and this gesture of destiny is something she will forever cherish. While 19MIL has a penchant for artists like Lil Peep, Yeat, and Lil Uzi Vert, she doesn’t often veer toward female artists. However, she unabashedly admits to being a die-hard fan of Billie Eilish.

Originally from the serene beach town of Treasure Island, Florida, where the music scene is predominately dominated by beach bar bands delivering covers, 19MIL stands out as a beacon of originality. To her, music composition is no less than a herculean task. From finding the right lyrics and crafting harmonious rhythms to delving deep into the myriad layers of production, every step presents its challenges. Yet, she persists, driven by the desire to be sure her message is conveyed accurately.

For 19MIL, music is more than just a creative outlet - it's a means to connect. Her core mission in producing music is to resonate with her listeners, to let them know they’re not alone in their feelings. She aspires to be a voice of reason, reassuring her audience that shared experiences are universal, and its okay to stand out. “You can be the light in a dark place,” she proclaims, emphasizing the need to persist through challenges.

Currently, her energies are laser-focused on refining her distinctive sound and releasing a slue of singles. Among them, the latest is “Deep End.” A visual and auditory treat, this track is more than just a song - its an emotion. Whether listeners are seeking solace in their room or cruising with the top down on a freeway, “Deep End” promises an immersive experience, an intricate blend of emotions and melodies that beacon listeners to hit repeat.

LISADANAE2023

LISA DANAË

Hailing from California, Filipino-American artist Lisa Danaë has long been a powerhouse vocalist in the music industry. Lisa’s journey began as a young girl when she found solace in pop industry powerhouses Christina Aguilera, Britney Spears and Justin Timberlake. As she grew as an artist, Lisa’s goal became to spread her story of growth and empowerment through the same powerful pop hooks and unfeigned, timeless lyrics that she grew up listening to. Her ability to pay tribute to the late 90’s/Y2K pop movement while still honoring her musical tenor in R&B birthed her transition and curation of “dark pop” where she takes deep sound to balance and challenge the uplifting lyricism and vocal tenor to create and addictive genre blend.

Between 2020 and 2021, Danaë had her most productive years of releasing music yet. With songs like “STARLET”, “Weigh Me Down”, “Press Reset” ft with producer Alex Bochel, “STARLET Audiocrisp Remix”, and “Focus On Me”, she began to truly embark on the journey of embodying and perfecting her songwriting capabilities. As Lisa released her music throughout the pandemic, she garnered the attention of publications such as Voyage LA, Shoutout LA, Rolling Stone India and more.

But perhaps her biggest achievement of 2021 was her single “Weigh Me Down” being nominated for Song Of The Year at the Wavy Awards, an award show focused on honoring minority talent within music. Lisa’s goal of creating a space for young minorities in music who relate to her story has been central to the progression of her career, and being honored by her peers in the space gave her a new outlook and many more opportunities for the future to continue the incredible storytelling she has been able to curate for her music.
