ALBUM REVIEW - TECH N9NE, BLISS

Written by

Tech N9ne, an artist who needs no introduction in the rap industry, has been a trailblazer for more than three decades. Known for his rapid-fire rhymes and unique musical style, he's released 24 albums that have solidified his status as one of hip-hop's most influential and iconic artists of all time. With his latest album, Bliss, Tech N9ne takes listeners on a sonic journey that showcases his artistic evolution while staying true to his roots. This is Tech N9ne at his finest.

Bliss was released on July 28th, 2023, under Strange Music, and it packs a punch with a whopping 25 tracks. Although some may argue that this number is excessive, each song brings its own flavor and contributes to the album's overall narrative. From the tight beats that underscore Tech's lightning-quick verses to the intricate harmonies that add depth to each track, Bliss is a testament to Tech N9ne's mastery of his craft. He’s even interwoven some killer skits that he’s been known for over the years that take Bliss to a whole new level.

The album opens with compelling energy, setting the tone for the rest of the tracks. The use of varied instruments and sound effects throughout the album gives it a dynamic feel, keeping listeners engaged from start to finish. Tech's vocal range is also on full display in Bliss, with tracks that showcase everything from his signature chopper-style delivery to slower, more melodic verses.

One standout track is the nu-metal-infused single "W.H.A.T.," which features Kim Dracula and Hu$h. This collaboration brings a fresh twist to the album and highlights Tech's ability to seamlessly blend genres. Another noteworthy song is "Fatha Fig-Ya," a track that bulldozes its way into your consciousness with its powerful beats and catchy hook.  My favorite, however, is “Drill Sergeant”.  This one hits on all cylinders and is quintessential Tech N9ne in its truest form.  It speaks to me on so many levels.

While Bliss is undeniably a Tech N9ne album at its core, it also shows the artist's growth and evolution. It's a departure from his previous work, like the Dominion Collabos album, but in a way that feels natural and authentic. The album's themes range from introspection to social commentary, all delivered through Tech's unique lyrical style.

In comparison to his previous works, Bliss seems to strike a balance between the familiar and the new, creating a soundscape that is both refreshing and quintessentially Tech N9ne. The album maintains the raw energy and creativity that fans have come to expect from Tech, while also introducing new elements that make it stand out in his discography.

Overall, Tech N9ne's Bliss is an ambitious project that delivers on all fronts. It's a testament to the rapper's versatility and his ability to continually raise the bar in terms of both quality and creativity. Whether you're a longtime fan of Tech N9ne or a newcomer to his music, Bliss is an album that deserves your attention.  So sit back, mix up a Windy (Kettle One and Orangina), and drop the needle on this soon to be classic - Bliss is 100% Hunnypot approved!
