CONCERT REVIEW: OTIS KANE AND MOOREA MASA @ THE ECHO, LOS ANGELES, CA (06.04.26)

A sold-out show brought strangers together in the intimate walls of The Echo. Otis Kane and Moorea Masa filled every inch of what room remained with soulful grooves and their potent voices. We were left with a night of incredible music as we stepped back out into the late-night glow of Los Angeles.

Opening the evening was Moorea Masa, supported by her electric guitarist Rachel Francis. This duo set the tone for the show, balancing exceptional musicianship with genuine connection. Rachel was the backbone of the set. Her playing anchored each song with a tight, steady rhythm while melodic flourishes filled the space between vocals. The result was a pulsing groove that kept the room moving. Unfamiliar with Moorea’s talent, I was blown away. Her voice is rich, powerful, and holds a strong presence. Her performance felt genuine from start to finish. Combined with warm instrumentation and heartfelt delivery, her songs brought a sincerity that was impossible to ignore.

Otis Kane was up next. With his band taking the stage before him, we got our first taste of his feel-good sound. His blend of R&B, soul, and funky influence melds into smooth grooves and music that lifts the mood. The whole evening I couldn’t help but move along as I was shooting. Whether familiar with Otis or not, catching him live delivers the same wow factor. The instant he started singing, the room lifted. His voice has so much range and a smooth timbre that comes off as effortless. Not only was I blown away, but around me people audibly had similar reactions of shock and amazement.

The set was littered with hits, notably “Free,” “Summer in December,” “Heaven,” and “Smile.” Throughout the evening his talent couldn’t help but be matched by his charisma. Through stories, fan engagement, and bringing his family on stage, he consistently blurred the line between performer and crowd. What starts as a concert begins to feel more like a gathering with good friends, good vibes, and even better music.

Otis and Moorea delivered an incredible night of musicianship. More importantly, they transformed The Echo into a shared experience, serving as a reminder that live music remains one of the few places where strangers can laugh, dance, celebrate, and leave feeling a little more connected than when they arrived.
