The most recent edition of Hunnypot Radio Live proved one thing: the perfect cure for the Coachella
comedown is a 4/20 music fest without the bells, whistles, and desert heat. While celebrating one of our
favorite days in the Pico Valley, we were treated to the live music of the Anti-Job, Alexander Cardinale,
Crush Effect, Boyfriend, and our very own Larken "L-Boogie" Phillips celebrating his 10th or 11th 30th
birthday.

Hot Tub Johnnie kicked off the program with some select tracks that celebrate the ideals of 4/20 by Jamie
Wyatt, Masters of Reality, and The Fraternity Of Man before welcoming Robert Jordan of Fox Sports to
take control of the music. The up-and-coming music supervisor took control with a diverse and expertly
selected set that included 90's deep cuts and about-to-pop hits.

The live portion of the night brought the most attention. The Anti-Job kicked things off with pep and
musicality, their up-tempo stylings laid the groundwork for the night to follow.
Fresh off his appearance at the Tunecore showcase, Alexander Cardinale laid down his signature
sweetness while wooing the audience into a self-indulgent stupor, only to be sexily awoken by NOLA-
based FemCee Boyfriend. True to form, her interactive set was so compelling that it made her headline
grabbing SXSW sets seem dull in comparison, but not enough to overshadow the other acts of the
evening.

As San Diego-based duo Crush Effect laid down their unique brand of EDM and live saxophone, the A/V
elements of the night became one befitting of the night itself. People who attended when asked about
what they did on 4/20 can respond with glee, "Oh me? I went to Hunnypot, watched a burlesque hip-hop
genius pirouette unrestricted around the club, and got high while watching a dope saxophonist blast some
brass over sick EDM beats. What did you do?"
So all in all, yea. It was pretty dope.

BIG THANKS to all who came out and enjoyed the 314th Hunnypot Radio Show!! If you were unable to
see the show or missed one of these special performances head over to the Hunnypot Radio page and

 BOYFRIEND

Rap game Bette Midler. Carol Burnette of hip hop. English major rap. Rap cabaret. Boyfriend has garnered a collection of buzzy descriptors that attempt to summarize her particular brand of performance. But her music is a sonic smorgasbord; at times abrasive, at times effervescent. And her video content is extensive and varied, an aesthetic range of compositions and costumes. Her live show is an intellectual strip tease, a visit to the club with your college professor. And perhaps, like the Grand Canyon, Boyfriend is best witnessed in the flesh. But amid the variety one thing is certain; whether self-serious or “high class silly,” well-lit or DIY, commentary is Boyfriend’s cohesive agent.

L.Boogie

L-BOOGIE

Ancient Sumerian texts tell of a man with boogie so pimpaliciously slick, that the world could not withstand the weight of his almighty funkification. He was born in a maelstrom of smoke and fire, schooled by the legends of Shaolin, and set upon this world to seek that mighty groove, tweak it till it’s smooth, straight up freak and bust a move.

This legend of boogie was deemed too powerful by the elder gods of groove, and so it was decided to seal his spirit away. For thousands of years the spirit of this titan of twerk lay dormant only to be awoken for a single night each year, for if his boogie lasted any longer the cosmos could be torn apart by his vociferous vibrations.

Lo and behold: the great L-Boogie hath arisen from his slumber! Payeth him tribute with  dope-ass dance moves & belligerent bong rips, lest ye soul be cast into darkness until he riseth once more.

Late Night Friends

Late Night Friends is an indie/alt rock band from Los Angeles, CA. Jonathan Baron and Barrett Shuler started awkwardly constructing songs sometime around Christmas 2013. At first, Shuler didn't appreciate Baron's affinity for 60's psychedelia and 70's punk. Baron, in retaliation, smugly dismissed Shuler's enthusiasm for obscure instrumental bands and Jeff Tweedy. The two buried the hatchet over a shared love for several 90's bands and have cohabitated politely since.

Mutual friend and drummer Keith Roenke always joked that they should start a band because "the marriage of their styles would either work really well or not at all." LNF was shaped up once Barrett recruited his former [Coral Springs, FL] Little League teammate Alex Gallner to play bass.

Late Night Friends' Debut LP, What I Think I'm Not, will be released on June 30th, 2015 via Limited Fanfare Records. Recorded by Steve Kille (of Dead Meadow), Mixed by Mike Pappas and Mastered by Dan Coutant (The Gaslight Anthem, Jawbox, Denney and The Jets).

Pretty young things aspire to embrace their basest desires by stealing cars, flaunting their goodies, and participating in a variety of girl-on-girl promiscuity, all with the mafiosal grace of the most elegant Real Housewive of New Jersey.

If this Video Pick's cover image and the above synopsis aren't enough indication, let me be clear: Spada & Elen Levon's international dance-pop smash hit "Cool Enough" is extremely sexy... almost too sexy... until you realize that's the point.

Despite coming across as a commercial for Europe's most prestigious barely legal sex factory (a tall order indeed), nestled deeply in the overt barrage of full-on sexuality that seemingly defines this video is an unexpected message: you'll never, ever, be cool enough, and the more earnestly you attempt to personify coolness incarnate, the more your soul is doomed to the deep abyss of the endless cycle of external validation.

But for real though - did you see that part where they licked that ice cream cone at the same time?!?!?

So hot bro.

So cool.

Tay Walker

"I wanted little pieces of things in it that makes you think 'why is life full of games,'" Walker tells The Juice of the Drew Kirsch-directed video. "I know what it's like to have my heart broken and so does the world. This video shows how love can leave you alone with a lot of time on your hands to think about the games that are played between two people in love."  You may recognize Tay Walker. The Inglewood, Calif. artist is the keyboardist and a vocalist in The Internet, also consisting of Odd Future's Syd the Kyd, Matt Martians, Patrick Page and Christopher A. Smith.  "Karma" is a stand-out track from his upcoming project, "25 Hours a Day." Carly Robyn Green

It was at the Grammy Awards that Carly was singing as a back-up vocalist for Cee Lo Green, when Cee Lo shared with her some invaluable advice.  Carly had been writing and recording of-the-moment electro-pop songs, heeding the mainstream pop music industry’s commercial demands of young adult female artists.  These tracks, and others, have received 1.5 million YouTube views for features on over 90 television shows spanning 30+ networks, including NBC’s 30 Rock and Fashion Star, ABC’s One Life to Live, etc.  Merging warm, nuanced, sensitive, powerhouse vocals, with memorable melodies, meaningful lyrics, and contemporary arrangements that integrate select elements from classic pop’s distant and recent past, the piece of work reflects a unique, sophisticated timelessness for the modern adult-contemporary market. YOUNG CREATURES

They toil in deserts and on busy freeways, at the top of massive seaside cliffs and in the dim neighborhood dives of sunny L.A.  The landscape is rife with energy and all the while they are collecting.  Despite the great abundance they are not taking but merely assimilating, recording, merging and regurgitating their interpretation of the beauty and chaos all around.  They are Young Creatures.  Attempts to describe them often land at “psych” -- as in “psychedelic,” “psych-pop hypnotists,” or a “psych-rock band in pop clothing.”  The terminology is often bogged down by notions of illicit indulgences or foolhardy voyages into the vast inner unknown.  But this particular brand of rock ‘n roll is more than a simple affront to the machine-pop dominating our present-day collective consciousness.  It is an alternative translation of the world around us, one that captures the essence of power and beauty and emotion that human beings are uniquely attuned to, that our machines allow us to ignore.  That is the goal.
