Hot Tub Johnnie and the HP Radio crew were back at it for their 286th show and it was a rockin’ party. Hot Tub kicked out new HP jams by A House For Lions, July Talk The Dollyrots and other gems from Broods, YG, The Preatures and more.
Our special guest DJ for the night were Mansions on the Moon, representing the band was producer keyboardist, Ben Hazlegrove. Ben sat down for an in-depth interview on the beginings of the band and their writing process. Ben also previewed a handful of tracks off their current releases “Full Moon”, “Lost and Found” and “Lightyears”. We highly recommend checking out the entire interview and listening back to their singles “Radio” and “She Says (Lights Off)”.
Kicking off our live segment was LA based pop rock singer-songwriter, The Jon Collins Band. Jon sang a stripped down set of upbeat, insightful acoustic pop rock jams. The highlight of the night was “Let Love Live” and “Ashley” his brand new single released this week.
Next to take over the Mint stage was Venice based based pop rockers (via Australia) Heroine December. Lead singers Maya and Nandy may be known as the back-up singers and dancers for Prince, but they completely took the Mint by storm as they performed a beautiful stripped back acoustic/electric set of their unique blend of pop rock jams.
The highlight of the night was definitely the performance by LA alt-rockers, Polaris Rose who completely packed the house. Lead by Madelynn Elyse and Peter Anthony, this LA duo performed a soaring set of free-spirited indie rock blended with tightly crafted pop melodies.
Closing out the night was none other than LA based rock n’ roller, Adam Bones. Having made his name accross LA with his spectacular stage presence and showmanship, Adam Bones blew the night out with his stadium rock savagery and 70's influenced power-pop hooks.
Huge thanks to everyone that came out to support, perform, and both the The Mint and Hunnypot crews. We couldn’t make it all happen without each and every one of you! 03/10/2014

(Performing Live) Named and inspired by none other than the artist Prince himself, Heroine December is an LA based Pop/Rock band consisting of lead singers and twin sisters Maya and Nandy McClean, guitar player, Brad Lindsay, bass player, Matthew Denis and drummer, Mike Robins. You may recognize lead singers Maya & Nandy from the Sidney Disney production of the Lion King, the movie Moulin Rouge or touring the world with Prince for the last 7 years as part of the NPG singing back-up and dancing at shows such as the Superbowl Half time show, 6 months 3121 run in Las Vegas, Planet Earth tour, Welcome 2 America and Welcome 2 Australia tours and also being featured in his music videos, on his planet earth record, 21 nights coffee table book and executive producing his latest music video “Breakfast Can Wait”. While working with and being mentored by him, the two Australian twin sister also worked with other artists like Rihanna, Chris Brown and Letoya Luckett, left their marks in movies and fashion campaigns but no matter what, they’ve always kept on writing and creating until they found the perfect mix of their multi-cultural heritage in music. Heroine December is just that, a unique blend of pop elements combined with true musicianship merging No Doubt with Rihanna and Pink giving you a high energy show that will sweep you off of your feet. (Performing Live) The Jon Collins Band was formed in Hollywood 2009. The band’s namesake was born in rural North Carolina, where he grew up surrounded by heartfelt blues melodies and true lyric country influences. Being an innovator by nature, Jon’s first instrument was the harmonica, which he proceeded to play with classical music and hip hop. A songwriter and vocalist for the group Still Life in Chapel Hill, NC, Collins became a local favorite. From there Jon Collins played in Virginia, Maryland, Texas, the midwest before settling in Los Angeles a few years ago. Jon Collins’ songwriting and vocal style evolved into something very contemporary, strikingly powerful in lyric and with acutely attractive melodies. A stunning and fresh blend of rock and pop. It was in LA that Jon Collins was introduced to George Daly, acclaimed hit songwriter and music executive for over 25 years with Elektra, Atlantic and Columbia Records. The two began songwriting together almost immediately. Recently, Lu Ye, acclaimed for her performances both in Asia and in the US was brought on board as buzz and interest in this debut album has grown. Things are currently happening at a lightening pace so please stay tuned for upcoming shows and promotions leading up to the release of their debut album this summer. http://www.joncollinsband.com twitter.com/joncollinsband

(Performing Live) “A duo comprised of Peter Anthony and Madelynn Elyse, their ever-growing popularity is spurred by their catchy alt rock music and lyrical stories. Their precise harmony, hard-hitting mainstream beats, and sing-a-long choruses make for unforgettable music that has quickly launched their career” – PureGrainAudio.com Adventurous and free-spirited, the musical duo Polaris Rose is an emerging band in the Los Angeles music scene. Tight duet harmonies, atmospheric soundscapes, and soaring melodies give Polaris Rose their signature sound: a blend of indie avant garde and musical simplicity. Polaris Rose’s sophomore EP (“The Moon & its Secrets”) is now available on iTunes, Spotify, and elsewhere online.

(Performing Live) This band has no past. Literally. We can tell you some things—a little of this and a bit of that—but Adam Bones is an artist—and a band—without a history. The man behind the EP Rock it Up is man with a story, to be sure, but who knows how much of it is true to begin with?
Those of you Beneath the Underground may have by happenstance slipped into a musty catacomb or back alley speakeasy-style rocker club and witnessed an early version of the Adam Bones vision. You might have been in London, or Chicago, Los Angeles, or someplace more rustic, but that was the past. Mr. Bones is arising from the shadows to stake a claim and make sure that everyone Knows His Name. Be sure you do; he will ask. This is not a test.
Likewise, his band, an All-Girl-Kung Fu-Army of riffs and beats to be dealt with, came from over the waters but emerged here (in your face, essentially), fully formed and ready for service. Unknown to each other, Adam Bones on his own and the future women of his band—Rikki Styxx, Tracy Lambertucci, and Breanna Fields—were both on a quest to find the missing components to their music machines. They crossed paths either in the Spanish Basque Country (where true-blue power pop is revered with Second Coming-like reverence) or in Brazil, depending on who is telling the story. Whatever the locale, the story that gets hinted at is that Bones was mounting a one-man intercontinental odyssey in search of lost chords and modes when he crossed paths with the trio of women, working at the time as the entertainment/R&R arm of an advance, off-the-radar unit under State Dept.

Hot Tub Johnnie and the HP Radio crew stacked the speakers high and blew out The Mint with another killah show last week. Hot Tub treated us to some golden nuggets by Big Joe Turner, Phantogram, King Washington, Broken Bells, Turbo Lightning and much more.
Our guest DJ for the night was none other than LA based music tastemaker/supervisor, Sanaz Lavaedian of mOcean. Sanaz was back for her 3rd time in the Hot Tub and it was more than a charm as she treated us to an explosive set of great new jams. Included in her playlist was Flume, Chet Faker, Son Lux, Glass Animals, The Knife and many more active groundbreaking artists.
Kicking off our live action were LA based pop, singer-songwriter trio, Distant Cousins. The trio took the stage and performed a brilliant set of vibrant, foot-stomping heartfelt alt-folk, pop songs in the vein of Mumford And Sons.
LA based r&b, soul, pop artist, Magda and rapper, producer, Sum-In-1 were next to hit the stage and treat us to a high energy dance set with heavy beats. Magda kicked it off first with her beautiful pop jams and later joined by Sum-In-1 to perform their latest single, “Fill Me Up”.
Closing out the night was none other than rhythm & blues, soul, jazz, funk sax icon, Charles Neville of the legendary Neville Brothers. Charles joined NY based roots, blues rock improvisational group, Gent Treadly. This powerful collection performed a truly precocious set of blues, rock, jazz, soul and funk classics and originals for a jam packed yet intimate Mint crowd. It was an absolute treat to witness the greatness of Charles Neville perform for us.
Huge thanks to everyone that came out to support, perform, and both the The Mint and Hunnypot crews. We couldn’t make it all happen without each and every one of you! 02/10/2014

Combined experience and complimentary musical worldviews have blended seamlessly in DISTANT COUSINS. “I love the synergy of this group because we really do each bring something different to the music,” says Dov, “Ami’s production and engineering chops are stellar.” Ami adds, “Dov helps to get our collage of ideas to a solidified song. He pulls us through the inevitable hurdles and obstacles a new song will always present.” Both love that Duvid’s raw and authentic approach brings a down-to-earth sensibility to the music. “He has managed to maintain a real organic connection to music throughout his years of experience,” says Ami, “I love his instincts and the soul that he brings.” In their short time as a band, DISTANT COUSINS is already showing signs that they are “on their way.” Their debut single, “Raise It Up,” was prominently featured on USA’s ‘Graceland’ and CBS’s ‘Criminal Minds.’ Keep an eye out for much more music soon…
Being a member of the First Family of Funk has made him world famous. But for years, the Nevilles produced great music that was seldom heard outside of the Crescent City. Some of their best work is on Treacherous (1986), which incorporates everything from Mardi Gras Indian songs to Aaron Neville’s top-charted “Tell It Like It Is.” Little they have done since can compare with the album’s gospel finale. When Aaron Neville asks his brother Charles the Horn Man to blow for them one time, he really does. Or witness his burning sound on “Fever” on the same CD. Much as they were revered in their hometown, the Neville Brothers’ ascent to superstardom had to wait until the musical collaboration between Aaron Neville and Linda Ronstadt woke up the rest of the world to what they had been missing. Aaron Neville’s career as a soloist points up a key fact about the Neville Brothers. Each has his own separate musical identity: Cyril Neville with his reggae rhythms, Art Neville with the Meters, and Charles Neville with his group Diversity. Known for ethereal performances at the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival, Diversity followed the masterful lead of Charles Neville. Drawing from the immense pool of fine musicians in New Orleans, from Johnny Vidacovich to Michael Ray, anything became musically possible. The group produced a CD in 1991 entitled And Diversity, which gives the listener a good overview of their amazing range. Diversity is still part of Charles Neville’s repertoire, along with the huge body of recordings and personal appearances the Neville Brothers have made in the past decade. Charles Neville’s talented daughter, Charmaine Neville often joins her father on-stage. In 2001, Neville released The Painter, in which he truly does paint with music on classics and original tunes. Also released in 2001 was Safe in Buddha’s Palm, in which a seasoned and spiritually minded Charles Neville pays homage to eastern philosophy, the healing power of the feminine, and the wealth of his musical tradition.

Hunnypot Radio and the Hunnypot Website provide instant awareness of Hunnypot artist activity as well as contemporary music news and other culturally relevant media.
John spent the first 20 years of his career in the music industry as an integral member of Windswept Music Publishing. He helped take the company from a fledgling start-up to the largest independent Music Publisher in the world, a feat that recently resulted in one of the most lucrative catalogue sales in Music Publishing history.
In 2008 John applied the A&R/Publisher/Placement model to the branded Hunnypot name and established itself as a leading independent music publishing/placement company representing the catalogues of Far East Movement, Louis Prima Jr., The Dollyrots, Barnyard Stompers, Mochipet, Young Creatures, The Cataracs, Dr. Hollywood, A House For Lions, Bearheart, J*LABS and Ghost Lit Kingdom.
John’s early track record as a song-plugger boasts hits like Eric Clapton’s “Before You Accuse Me” and Vanessa Williams’ career-defining song “Save The Best For Last.” Over the course of his industrious Publishing career, John has worked closely with some of the biggest songwriters of all-time including Sean Garrett (Usher “Yeah”, Fergie “London Bridge”), Mike Elizondo (50 Cent “In Da Club”, Mary J. Blige “Family Affair”) and Albert Hammond (Julio Iglesias “To All The Girls I’ve Loved Before,” The Hollies “The Air That I Breathe”).
As Sr. Vice President of Film & Television Music for Windswept, John was essential in the synchronization and licensing careers of such seminal artists as Pete Townsend, John Mellencamp, Nick Cave, The Allman Brothers and Willie Nelson as well as new stars like Corrine Bailey Ray, Snow Patrol, Kings of Leon, Beyonce, Mickey Avalon and Lady Sovereign. Some personal placement triumphs for John include Snow Patrol “Chasing Cars” in Grey’s Anatomy, The Who songs featured in the entire CSI franchise, Kings of Leon’s “Molly’s Chamber” for Volkswagon, and The Dollyrots “Because I’m Awesome” for both Hewlitt/Packard and Kohl’s Department Stores.
As one of the key A&R representatives for Windswept, some of John’s signings included Fischerspooner, The Dollyrots, Meat Beat Manifesto, The Cramps, Talib Kweli, Blackstar, The Coup, Hi-Tek, The BellRays, Johnette Napollitano (Concrete Blonde) and Shy Child.
John is also on the Music Industry Executive Fundraising Committee for the City of Hope, the premier Music Industry charity organization and was a member of the Academy of Country Music (ACM) Film & Television Task Force.
Hunnypot Unlimited was originally formed to create “community” within the then burgeoning film, television, ad and gaming music fields. After quickly accomplishing this mission by establishing itself as the epicenter of the industry’s social community, Hunnypot has gone on to acquire meaningful copyrights and masters, discover and develop commercially viable talent and leverage strong industry experience and relationships to generate significant income streams and exposure for our talent and our sponsor partners.
The name “Hunnypot” was first introduced in 2000 by music industry veterans John Anderson (at the time, Sr. VP of Creative/Film & TV for Windswept Music) and composer agent Tammy Krutchkoff. In an effort to bolster internal support for their soon-to-be highly significant and lucrative area of the Entertainment Industry, Hunnypot was originally designed as a “mixer” for the rapidly growing Film, Television, Ad and Gaming Music and Soundtrack fields. By way of monthly parties and one-off events throughout the world, the Hunnypot Party has come to symbolize an electrifying, exhilarating and stimulating experience for the entire creative community.
In November 2005, John Anderson and top-tier Music Supervisor PJ Bloom launched Hunnypot Radio; a live, interactive “listening session” emanating from the Hunnypot studios and streamed over the Internet at the HunnypotUnlimited.com site. This bi-weekly radio show draws a consistent audience of music and entertainment industry professionals, artists and songwriters, friends, acquaintances and the creative community at large. Not only has the radio show generated extraordinary industry buzz and favorable press, it has led to sponsorships from beverage and lifestyle companies (including Korbel Champagne, Tito’s Vodka, Bionade, Hubert’s Lemonade, Blue Microphones, IZZE & Kenwood Wines).
In September 2007 and after 18-years with the company, John Anderson left his role as Sr. VP of Film & TV Music/Creative at Windswept Music so that he could focus his attention on Hunnypot Unlimited in order to fulfill his greater, long-term goals for the brand.
Presently, Hunnypot has established itself as a leading independent music publishing/placement company.
Hunnypot Unlimited’s core business is its Music Publishing, Placement and Licensing division. Hunnypot provides exclusive promotion, marketing, brand development and placement representation of owned and non-owned copyrights and recording assets through expansive relationships within the music, film, television, ad and gaming communities using unique, forward thinking approaches to business and distinct, creative grass roots campaigns.

In Los Angeles’ fertile, Smell-centered mid-2000s noise-rock scene, no one got as close to pure pop as the dearly departed Mae Shi, a supercollider that often sounded like a dozen bands’ ideas being realized at once. Not surprisingly, they’ve splintered into nearly a dozen other groups since their dissociation in 2009; specifically, band member Jeff Byron has created Batwings Catwings, Physical Forms (which included left-field rapper Busdriver as a member), and Turbo Lightning, a quartet that also pulls in Dana Poblete (Batwings Catwings), Aaron Farinelli, and Zach Lewis (Hex Horizontal). The first single from their self-titled EP (out November 15), “Faster Than Light”, is the most instantly accessible Mae Shi-affiliated output yet; whereas HLLLYH bounced off the walls, “Faster than Light” gallops forward with purpose and assurance, palm-muted metal riffs providing a pacesetter for Poblete’s sweetened vocals. Still, “Faster than Light” allows itself to veer from the center of the road, making judicious use of spirited cheerleading group vocals and spastic drum fills to remind you who’s behind this.

This LA quartet completely set the stage for the night as KW rocked out with a smokin' set of rock n' roll gems, sprinkled with an alt-folk/indie vibe. The highlights of the night were definitely the standout album cuts "Old Highway 9" and "Land Without Age" taken off their new LP, The Overload out now!
LA alt-rockers, LA Font took to the stage next and dropped some high energy indie rock jams. Having just released their new album, Diving Man, the boys brought the heat on their title track and songs like "Onshore" and "Down The Road". Don't sleep on these rockin' LA boys as we expect a big 2014 for LA Font.
Closing out the night was Silver Lake based alt rockers, Decørator. This LA 5-piece outfit completely stole the show with an absolute brilliant set of fun upbeat, indie rock jams with killer pop hooks. Be sure to listen back to Decørator's complete performance here.
Huge thanks to everyone that came out to support, perform, and both the The Mint and Hunnypot crews. We couldn’t make it all happen without each and every one of you! 12/16/2013
Nikki Triplett comes to us from Lionsgate Film Music. She’s worked at Lionsgate for nearly 2 years and has worked on such films as THE TWILIGHT SAGA: BREAKING DAWN – PART 2, NOW YOU SEE ME, RED 2 and the current mega hit THE HUNGER GAMES: CATCHING FIRE. She was involved in the re-launching of LG Records that has since released original motion picture music for films such as THE PERKS OF BEING A WALLFLOWER, WARM BODIES, THE POSSESSION, EXPENDABLES 2. When Nikki’s not at work or attending shows she can be found attempting a handstand on practically any surface (esp after a glass of wine.. but doesn’t recommend others try this… Nikki is an (un)trained professional). This is Nikki’s first DJing gig and even though the Texan in her so desires, she promises not to play all country (hopefully…. yeehaw).
King Washington is a powerhouse of cinematic texture, vocal harmony, and musical prowess. We are very happy to have them kick off the bands for this edition of the Hunnypot Radio Show.
LA Font is a rock band based in Echo Park. If you read about music, you are probably familiar with Echo Park as it has become famous as the neighborhood a mere 7 miles northeast of where the Notorious B.I.G. was gunned down. Unlike the late Biggie Smalls, LA Font records a brand of rock and roll that some have branded “independent” or, for short, “indie.” There are other bands in Echo Park that have followed suit and made a similar brand of “inde rock.” Plus they have Golden Ladies. Check em out to see what I mean.
Decørator is the music of three brothers and close friends. These young icons in the making have a high energy set, a great vibe, and musicianship beyond their years. Come and peep their set @ 11pm.
Riff Raff
Hot Tub Johnnie and the HP Radio crew blew out another rockin' show last week at The Mint. Hot Tub dropped some of his top new digs which included jams from Future Of The Left, The Melker Project, YG, Metronomy, Seven Saturdays and many more.
Super LA tastemaker and Danger Village PR Founder, Beth Martinez joined us for a very special sit down interview and DJ Set. Beth has had one hell of a year as she's working with the likes of many of today's top breaking artists - MØ, The Preatures, Alpine, holychild, Little May and much more. So ultimately her set was filled with the latest from those talented artists as well as her favs from NONONO, Benji Clementine, Goldroom and more.
Kicking off the live performances was upcoming Canadian female rapper, Nova Rockafeller. Recently signed to Mercury/Boardwalk, Nova joined us for a brief interview where she spoke on her new single "Problems" and her latest rise to success with Mercury. However the highlight was definitely her performance where she rocked out over heavy sampled beats with her witty spitfire flow.
LA rockers, The Hidden Lines took to the stage next and performed a guitar driven set loaded with psych-pop vibes. The highlight of the night was the stellar performance of their single "Tame The Lion" taken off their latest album, Auralize.
Making the trek down from Vancouver was newly formed folk duo, The Royal Oui. This exceptionally talented couple of Adrienne Pierce and Ari Shine performed a beautifully arranged acoustic folk set layered with ambient synths and airy harmonies that completely soothed over the crowd.
Closing out the night was LA based folk rockers, Wise Cub. This eclectic 4-piece outfit performed a brilliant set of acoustic folk rock songs backed by the exceptional playing of Violist, Molly Rogers.
Huge thanks to everyone that came out to support, perform, and both the The Mint and Hunnypot crews. We couldn’t make it all happen without each and every one of you! 12/02/2013
Beth Martinez’s philosophy on music isn’t just conducive to the success of her music PR firm, Danger Village. “I feel like we all want to share music with people,” she states, a perspective that Martinez adamantly believes. “I promote music I truly love and think other people should hear.” This attitude, and what has become her firm’s driving principal, is distinctive when looking at the myriad of firms at large within such a competitive industry. Such genuine appreciation for an atmosphere seemingly drenched in survival of the fittest is refreshing and one that continues to attract more artists every day.
This balance has created buzz resulting in clients such as MØ, FIDLAR, The Preatures, High Highs, holychild, and Fallulah. Martinez has found the combination of trusting her own musical taste, and instant emotional response, as the perfect affirmation for working with an artist. She believes, “That’s the key to being good PR., and the key to being a good human being. It’s not just to use people, but to really appreciate what they do as a music source.” The inclusive nature of music is what initially drew Martinez to music PR. Citing herself as a “late bloomer” when it comes to contemporary music, she is now at the forefront, representing some of the industry’s most talked about acts.
Having worked with the now infamous “I Think We’re Alone Now” semi-pop idol, Tiffany, on her college comeback tour back at the University of Illinois, Martinez was asked to join the traveling merchandise team. While she declined that offer back in 2001, she recognized it as a springboard into “ propelling her from passive music lover to passionate music rep.” She is now the founder and head of Danger Village, her music PR firm based in Los Angeles. We're kicking off the show with an exciting up-and-coming performer: Nova Rockafeller. Even though her album isn't out yet, she's worked with She Wants Revenge's Justin Warfield and has been remixed by the Hood Internet. Get ready for a blowout awesome set!
The Hidden Lines are a Los Angeles based band centered around guitarist, lead singer and songwriter Adam Yarbro. With an original guitar sound focused on new and interesting effects and progressions, their aim is to produce a modern psychedelic-yet-pop vibe, while incorporating classic rock and blues guitar-driven influences. The band have played numerous popular venues in Southern California such as The Viper Room, Hotel Café, and El Cid, as well as being active in the Las Vegas music scene. The Hidden Lines are comprised of Adam Yarbro on guitar and vocals, Dean Mozian on drums, Raphael Bello on bass and Alex Zudin on keyboards. Their full-length debut album, Auralize, is available now.
The Royal Oui is married couple Adrienne Pierce and Ari Shine’s new band. Close harmonies evoke Fleetwood Mac and Fleet Foxes in songs that would fit on playlists with Civil Wars and Wilco. Their successful solo careers include dozens of TV placements on shows like Grey’s Anatomy, direct support for artists like Ray Lamontagne and Chris Shiflett (Foo Fighters), making the 2013 Grammy ballot and showcases at SXSW, NXNE and festivals worldwide.
Forebear is a folk rock band from Los Angeles, CA. The band is comprised of Scott Goldbaum on guitar and vocals, Mike Musselman on drums, Molly Rogers on viola and vocals, and Nick Chamian on bass. Wild Cub plays acoustic songs that build to great orchestral finales. Check out the single for their song “Motions,” available on their bandcamp page.
