We are doing a flashback Thursday! In 2013, Alek Fin made his appearance on the Hunnypot Radio Show #274, and blew everyone in the crowd away. Here's a look back to an amazing performance of his.
Full show audio link is here!
Hunnypot was once again in full swing. Featuring curated DJ sets from Hot Tub Johnnie and Danny Exum as well as live performances from Bellflower, The Silverlake Chorus, Ruby Friedman Orchestra, Anahita Skye, and Felice LaZae, West LA hotspot The Mint crossed the spectrum from interactive listening party to intimate auditorium and all the way to a full on dance party.
Hot Tub kicked off the show with tracks from Lucas Nord, Mark Mallman, Skizzy Mars, and Dead Yayo followed by Danny Exum’s choice selections of The Preatures, Campfire, and Whitehorses and wouldn’t you know it, but both Hot Tub and Dan-o had The Chemical Brothers – “Go” in their sets without any coordination. Turns out having a video directed by Michel Gondry is a great way to make a splash with the right crowd…
BELLFLOWER kicked of the live portion of the evening with rustic aplomb, which transitioned beautifully into the docile, yet powerful, tones of THE SILVERLAKE CHORUS. All twenty of the pride of Silverlake brought their friends, and in turn we all became friends. Music friends. The best kind of friends.
After the herd of tenors, baritones, sopranos, and altos made their way towards the bar, RUBY FRIEDMAN ORCHESTRA took the stage to lay down some whiskey drinkin’ music. A tried and true New Orleans artist, Ms. Friedman brought down the house with emotion only to see the rapid fire succession of ANAHITA SKYE and FELICE LAZAE build it back up again with sensitivity and passion.
All in all this was a well-rounded night of diverse music and those who were present can count themselves lucky for being there.
Listen here to relive the experience, and if for some reason you couldn’t make it out to hang you owe it to yourself to check it out!
BIG THANKS to all who came out and enjoyed the 315th Hunnypot Radio Show!! 06/01/2015
Danny got his start in the music industry as a DJ and live mix engineer at the esteemed 88.9 WERS in Boston, before bolting westwards to work in EMI's Film/TV department. Since those days he has built a strong career as a Music Supervisor for features, television and theatrical marketing. His credits include film marketing campaigns for Edge Of Tomorrow, Lone Survivor, The Avengers, Wreck It Ralph, Watchmen, The Dark Knight, and X Men: Days Of Future Past, as well as the independent films Come Down Molly, The List, and The Ballad of Genesis and Lady Jaye. He has been nominated twice for a Guild of Music Supervisors award for Best Use Of Music in a film trailer. Danny is currently a partner in the music supervision collective High Bias and the Director of Music at the film marketing agency Workshop Creative
Bellflower is Los Angeles-based songwriting duo Heather Ogilvy and Mikey Wells. Their indie-folk-pop songs range from playful, upbeat, optimistic tunes, to more introspective ballads meant for a rainy day.
THE SILVER LAKE CHORUS performs choral arrangements of indie music and exudes both the edgy, independent spirit of Silver Lake and the heart of community choral singing.
TSLC’s upcoming album, produced by Aussie crooner Ben Lee, features rare and new tracks written exclusively for the chorus by the likes of Sia, Aimee Mann, The Bird and the Bee, Tegan and Sara, Ben Lee, The New Pornographers, Ben Gibbard (Death Cab for Cutie), John Roderick (The Long Winters), The Flaming Lips, and Justin Vernon (Bon Iver).
TSLC regularly performs live in and around Los Angeles and can also be heard singing the theme song for the SNL feature film MACGRUBER as well as backup vocals on Andy Samberg and Akon’s single, “I Just Had Sex.”
Anahita Skye has a unique sound that is a modern blend of sultry rock and melodic pop with an infusion of soulful undertones emanating from her Middle Eastern roots. Her music has been likened to Nirvana meets Ellie Goulding.
Felice LaZae is a storytelling singer/songwriter whose bluesy, soulful rock music imitates life with a cinematic twist. What does that mean? That means she sings about the things we all think about, the things we all struggle with, and the fantasies we can’t live out in real life.
Felice LaZae’s “Give It Away” EP is rich with the seductive sounds of the blues, and every song highlights her soulful, commanding vocals.
Hunnypot’s 316th edition of the radio show featured multiple headliners of varying genres as well as curated music plucked straight from our back pockets. Hot Tub Johnnie set the tone with tunes from The Darkness, Gallant, O.T. Genasis, and Kraak & Smaak. We them spent some time chatting with pop-culture icon Mason Reese where we discussed his upcoming TV show Live Interrupted.
We shared the history of the Bihari Brother's song catalog Modern Music with Michael Bihari and Abby North curating a set that included classics from B.B. King, Etta James, Pinetop Slim and Howlin' Wolf
Jaime Wyatt and the Bang Bang's open the show with a worm and steller performance closing with her newest single "Marijuana Man".
Up next was Deadfinger who killed it with a new take on the classic 90's rock sound.
Wetwood Smokes also slayed it playing songs of their new Organ Doner EP release.
Nicki Tedesco lead the pop punk outfit Frantic Ginger who closed with a room inspiring cover of Black Sabbath's classic "War Pigs".
NY culture perveyor Dave Cove a.k.a. DJ Synapse, rocked the dance party with earcandy classics spanning all the decades.

From 12-bar blues to ice cream changes the American pop-culture masterpieces of both Modern Music Publishing and the North Music Group were built to last. With modern standards like BB King’s “Rock Me Baby” to The Righteous Brother’s “Unchained Melody” both catalogs contain the DNA of Rock & Roll in magnificent proportions.
Today, Abby North and Mike Bihari carry the torch for NMG and MMP respectively. In addition to her work as the resident music maven of Malibu, Abby North is also the music supervisor for the hit A&E television program “Wahlburgers”. Come join us as both share their musical bounty live on May 18th.
Jaime Wyatt is a striking figure who walks the Earth with an old soul. Her repertoire tells stories of heartbreak and redemption, delivered by a voice that is both rich and magnetic. Comparisons are frequently drawn to Chrissie Hynde, Stevie Nicks and at times she has been anointed a female Tom Petty. Wyatt is a dynamic performer, dually noted as a powerhouse singer and stellar guitar player, sailing between vintage 60’s and 70’s rock n roll anthems and heartfelt ballads of love and confusion.
Originally discovered by Skip Williamson of LA indie label Lakeshore Records while still living in her hometown of Tacoma, Washington, she signed her first recording contract at 17. Her Lakeshore Records self-titled EP was produced by Pete Droge, and delivered a windfall with each and every song receiving placement in a major motion picture or soundtrack, some of which included Wicker Park (“Lightswitch"), Midnight Meat Train (song title), and Feast of Love (song title). The track "Lightswitch" became a hit at college and indie radio in the U.S., alongside at stations across the European continent. Tiffany, of 80's pop radio fame, covered her composition "Mind Candy” on her album Just Me. Last year, a song Wyatt penned with Pete Droge and Elaine Summers was featured on ABC’s hit TV show Nashville.
Wyatt is a prolific songwriter and musician who maintains a busy writing and touring schedule. She released two EP’s with the group American Bloomers, and last year released a full-length album as a member of the female Americana trio CALICO.
Singer / Songwriter / Guitarist Jaime Wyatt is currently finishing an album recorded in her Los Angeles home with Producer Mark Howard (Bob Dylan, Tom Waits, Lucinda Williams).

"A rare type of magic happens when certain musicians are brought together by the hands of fate. No other configuration is quite as impactful until that specific moment arises and a new group is formed…
Wetwood Smokes released their Sophomore Ep "Organ Donor". The three song glimpse into their developing sound was recorded, mixed, and produced by OC Music Awards 2014 "Best Producer" recipient Jon O'Brien at The Music box Studios. TOSHA JONES - DRUMS - Tosha is taking on Los Angeles like a wildfire! Nicki gets distracted just watching her play! She hits HARD and plays like a metronome. She's on a mission to take over the world...yes, the WORLD! Whether it’s in her head banging, snare cracking or cymbal crashes, her live performances are mind-blowing and a force to be reckoned with. Talented, passionate, aspiring, inspiring...can't say enough about this girl! But when you get a chance to meet her off the throne and talk to her one on one, that’s when you’ll catch that fire in her eyes and the dream in her heart, and truly understand why she’s part of Frantic Ginger.
PAUL KILLION - GUITAR - Paul takes the role of rhythm and lead in a spectacular face melting mad skills kind of way. He has had multiple residencies at LA clubs where he heads up jam nights and features artists from all over to play with him and the various house bands. He is a songwriter, lyricist, guitar virtuoso and all out supporter of local live music.
The Chemical Brothers new single "Go" is pretty great, but the real story here is that Michel Gondry has graced us with another of his visual masterpieces. For those who aren't familiar, Gondry is an Academy Award winning screenwriter, the creator of The Matrix's "bullet time", the creator of the commercial that hold the Guinness World Record for "most awards", and in his spare time makes music videos with the likes of Radiohead, Daft Punk, The White Stripes, Beck, and of course The Chemical Brothers. So yeah. This is worth 3 minutes of your time.
Hunnypot’s 315th edition of the radio show featured multiple headliners of varying genres as well as curated music plucked straight from our back pockets. Hot Tub Johnnie set the tone with tunes from fresh Hunnypot signings J*LABS and the Barnyard Stompers, legends such a Dwight Yoakam and Glen Campbell, and a revolutionary shout out to our good friend Gary Calamar to boot. We brought on indie rockers Ghost Lit Kingdom for a brief interview followed by the special guest DJ of the evening.
Fresh off the commute from his music lair at Freemantle Media, Daryl Berg took over the airwaves with true, blue, rock & roll from The Clash, The Replacements and REM before capping off his set with his current u-and-coming music darling Hippo Campus. Then, for good measure, he played some Coltrane while Hot Tub and DB reminisced about The Replacement’s legendary live sets as well as the awesomeness of the fact that a good day at work is full of good music.
As Rome Will Burn set out to take the stage, we sat down with psychedelically savvy rock outfit Vox Waves, and by the time we wrapped up the interview Rome Will Burn was blasting at full volume. The electrifying duo took over the room with a combination of killer songs, virtuosic violin, and big, impressive vocal movements transitioned perfectly into the sultry, nonchalant acoustic ambience of Ghost Lit Kingdom. Performing as a four-piece, the fact that they played a stripped down set was undetectable as the room was full of their lush soundscape.
Vox Waves took the stage next and powered their way through the 60’s sound with such ease that it seemed like the ghost of the Lizard King himself had decided to make an appearance. Closing out the night in order were power-pop songstress Rocky and burgeoning underground hip-hop maestro Barney Bones, but even the end of the live music couldn’t stop the dance party as Hot Tub Johnnie and Boomshack re-took control of the ones and twos into the dark of night.
Listen here to relive the experience, and if for some reason you couldn’t make it out to hang you owe it to yourself to check it out! 5/04/2015

While finalizing their first EP, Rome Will Burn began attracting the attention of several prominent industry professionals. “Their latest songs sound like radio hits,” Campbell says – and he’s not the only one who thinks so. Grammy-Award winning producer Randy Jackson, upon hearing Lovin’ Out Loud, reached out to the young duo. “It’s time to bring music back to music,” Manifesto says, deeply passionate about Rome Will Burn’s priority of keeping musicianship in focus over “smoke, mirrors, and auto-tune.” It’s also time for the duo to take their next step.“We’ve both put in the 10,000 hrs+ on our craft and came into each other’s lives at the exact right time,” Manifesto says. “See, written in the stars!” laughs Suede. “I honestly couldn’t ask for more,” she adds. “Now we’re just excited to finish getting our team together and get our music out to the world."

"Anthemic alternative indie pop is the genre description of choice for this Southern California based quintet. Born from an acoustic side project and developed into an emotional catharsis filled with cascading dynamics, powerful vocal and lyrical substance, stunning musicianship and innovative songwriting, Ghost Lit Kingdom is poised to be the next indie band of note to come from the Los Angeles scene.
The music of Ghost Lit Kingdom features a textual blend of musical, dynamic and vocal contrast. Dual vocals, as unique together as they are apart, are lain upon a canvas of flowing sound; moving through sections of quiet substance to passages of powerful vigor.

When you make timeless music, you've captured something in present day that still evokes a strong emotional response for years to come. From Afrika Bambaataa, to Nirvana, to LCD Soundsystems, their music felt retro, contemporary, and forward thinking all at the same time. One rapper out of South Central Los Angeles, Barney Bones, aims to join those ranks, sooner than later.
From a young age way before Rap Genius, Barney listened to and wrote down some of his favorite lyrics on his CD player in awe, eventually mastering his delivery and storytelling skills. His passion to share his stories and vivid imagery directed him to the mic, especially as he saw the stress and dissatisfaction of these around him continue to escalate as a result of their nine-to-fives. Now Barney Bones is reintroducing himself to the world with his eclectic tastes and earnest desire to share the beautiful thoughts in his mind. Tweet @BarneyBones
Another Hot Tub favorite with a brand new single and album. We debuted the single on our 4/20 Hunnypot Radio show. Catch them on tour this summer!
The Southern California quintet Ghost Lit Kingdom has been officially Hunnypot approved! The alternative indie pop band just released their new single and video for “You Don’t Know Me” and after listening to this song you will want to know who they are. The band draws from an eclectic set of influences including folk, pop, alternative, hip hop, jazz and many between to create a unique and cultivated sound that sets them apart from their fellow indie musicians. Don't miss their incredible live show.
A young traveler stumbles upon a Boss ladies moonshine operation. He is immediatley intrigued, and you will be too by the vintage vibes in Marcus Amaya's jazzy single, Moonshine. Check it out.
The most recent edition of Hunnypot Radio Live proved one thing: the perfect cure for the Coachella
comedown is a 4/20 music fest without the bells, whistles, and desert heat. While celebrating one of our
favorite days in the Pico Valley, we were treated to the live music of the Anti-Job, Alexander Cardinale,
Crush Effect, Boyfriend, and our very own Larken "L-Boogie" Phillips celebrating his 10th or 11th 30th
birthday.
Hot Tub Johnnie kicked off the program with some select tracks that celebrate the ideals of 4/20 by Jamie
Wyatt, Masters of Reality, and The Fraternity Of Man before welcoming Robert Jordan of Fox Sports to
take control of the music. The up-and-coming music supervisor took control with a diverse and expertly
selected set that included 90's deep cuts and about-to-pop hits.
The live portion of the night brought the most attention. The Anti-Job kicked things off with pep and
musicality, their up-tempo stylings laid the groundwork for the night to follow.
Fresh off his appearance at the Tunecore showcase, Alexander Cardinale laid down his signature
sweetness while wooing the audience into a self-indulgent stupor, only to be sexily awoken by NOLA-
based FemCee Boyfriend. True to form, her interactive set was so compelling that it made her headline
grabbing SXSW sets seem dull in comparison, but not enough to overshadow the other acts of the
evening.
As San Diego-based duo Crush Effect laid down their unique brand of EDM and live saxophone, the A/V
elements of the night became one befitting of the night itself. People who attended when asked about
what they did on 4/20 can respond with glee, "Oh me? I went to Hunnypot, watched a burlesque hip-hop
genius pirouette unrestricted around the club, and got high while watching a dope saxophonist blast some
brass over sick EDM beats. What did you do?"
So all in all, yea. It was pretty dope.
BIG THANKS to all who came out and enjoyed the 314th Hunnypot Radio Show!! If you were unable to
see the show or missed one of these special performances head over to the Hunnypot Radio page and
LISTEN BACK HERE and continue to join us every other Monday night at The Mint as we continue to
push the envelope with exposing today’s bubbling music talent. 4/20/2015
Inspired to follow a career in music by the iconic scores of John Williams, Robert Jordan studied film scoring at the Berklee College of Music and began his career as a music coordinator for industry veteran, music supervisor John Houlihan (TRAINING DAY, AUSTIN POWERS, LOOPER). After a year with the Warner Bros. Television creative team as a coordinator, Jordan now works as the Music Supervisor for Fox Sports Marketing.
The Anti-Job are a Los Angeles based indie-rock band. Founded in 2009 at Vassar College in New York - Amanda Jones (vocals and guitar) and Martin Lopez-Iu (guitar and keyboard) formed the band bonding over their radical musical influences. Martin hails from a background of folk and Amanda thrives on noise, psychedelic and the avant-garde. Lee Harcourt (drums and percussion), brings a strong jazz background to the arrangement. Together they produce eclectic and powerful songs – surreal with a pop sensibility.

In the current renaissance of pop singer-songwriters, Alexander Cardinale stands out with dense, contagious melodies and poetically honest lyricism. Released August 2014, "Made For You” is Xander's leading single for his upcoming alt-pop EP 'Digital Youth'. Working together with producer Morgan Taylor Reid (Plug-In Stereo, The Ready Set, Backstreet Boys, Jo Jo), Xander's catalog of compositions have been the backdrop of pivotal scenes in 'One Tree Hill' (CW), 'Rookie Blue' (ABC), 'Ghost Whisperer' (CBS), 'Castle' (ABC), 'Friends With Benefits' (NBC); and '90210' (CW); the latter placement was recently honored by the Hollywood Music in Media Awards for Best Song in a TV Series. With double acclaim from 'Music Connection' magazine's "Hot 100 Unsigned Artists" list two years in a row, Xander continues to deliver and surprise now in 2014. Catch him on tour with Melissa Etheridge Nov-Dec of 2014 across 25 cities in the US.
Rap game Bette Midler. Carol Burnette of hip hop. English major rap. Rap cabaret. Boyfriend has garnered a collection of buzzy descriptors that attempt to summarize her particular brand of performance. But her music is a sonic smorgasbord; at times abrasive, at times effervescent. And her video content is extensive and varied, an aesthetic range of compositions and costumes. Her live show is an intellectual strip tease, a visit to the club with your college professor. And perhaps, like the Grand Canyon, Boyfriend is best witnessed in the flesh. But amid the variety one thing is certain; whether self-serious or “high class silly,” well-lit or DIY, commentary is Boyfriend’s cohesive agent.
Electronic producer duo Crush Effect will release debut record Febuary 18th. The album, Until the Next combines modern dance production with live saxophone, keys/piano to create an Electro Soul / Future Soul / Funky sound.
Ancient Sumerian texts tell of a man with boogie so pimpaliciously slick, that the world could not withstand the weight of his almighty funkification. He was born in a maelstrom of smoke and fire, schooled by the legends of Shaolin, and set upon this world to seek that mighty groove, tweak it till it’s smooth, straight up freak and bust a move.
This legend of boogie was deemed too powerful by the elder gods of groove, and so it was decided to seal his spirit away. For thousands of years the spirit of this titan of twerk lay dormant only to be awoken for a single night each year, for if his boogie lasted any longer the cosmos could be torn apart by his vociferous vibrations.
Lo and behold: the great L-Boogie hath arisen from his slumber! Payeth him tribute with dope-ass dance moves & belligerent bong rips, lest ye soul be cast into darkness until he riseth once more.
This stunning video for DJ Claude Daniel's new single (feat. Aim B) Rise In Love is worth the entire 3:59 of your time. Enjoy.
