You’ve probably heard this song all over TikTok and if not, you’ve probably seen the memes! This song was originally posted on the internet in July 2019 by Jedwill and then the Peter Kuli remix was posted on Soundcloud in October of 2019. Since then the official music video has reached over 340K views and has even sparked controversy that NBC News and The New York Times wrote an article on it.
Although many take the term “OK Boomer” as a joke, many other people have considered it to be slander towards the Boomer generation. The Music video opens up with short clips of the “Boomer” Generation such as Seniors walking down the street to vintage footage of the Boomer generation when they were younger. The way the video is set up it almost seems to be a response to what Boomers have been saying about the Millennials and Gen Z, while also giving a bit of an inside look at what that Boomer generation achieved and created. One of the clips touches the subject of consumerism and war. This isn’t your typical music video and although some say its satirical, it may also just be hitting the nail on the head with everything that is going on today.

SUGARAY RAYFORD Performing Live! 2020 Grammy nominee + 2019 Blues Foundation Award-Winner for Best Soul Blues Male Artist. New album ‘Somebody Save Me’ out now!
Texas born Caron “Sugaray” Rayford began his musical career at the age of 7 singing & playing drums in church. His gospel influence can be heard and felt in his music today. Rayford’s phrasing is intimate and conversational and the soulful gravel in his voice hints at his firsthand experience with hardship during his childhood marked by poverty and loss. He remembers a sad game he played with his brothers, a competition that determined who was skinniest by counting the number of belt holes left unused on his belt. His mother struggled to raise three boys alone while battling cancer. When she died, it was a kind of a relief. “She suffered and we suffered,” Rayford said. “Then, we moved in with my grandmother and our lives were a lot better. We ate every day and we were in church every day, which I loved. I grew up in gospel and soul.”
When Sugaray belts out a song, you not only hear it, you feel it. The excitement in the room is palpable when he takes the stage. His dynamic voice is as large as the man himself. With his old school vocal style, Echoes of Muddy Waters, Otis Redding and Teddy Pendergrass can be heard. At 6’5” he is a big man, but he moves with grace and energy and his dance steps will remind you of the Legendary James Brown.
In 2000 Hot Tub Johnnie removed a taped apple off the wall at a gallery in West Hollywood and ate it. Some say that's the day Hunnypot was born. Last night's Hunnypot Live was a holiday hit. Thomas Golubic' skated in just in time to talk with DJ Spectrum and Hot Tub and sleighed the decks with a killer playlist. Jacob Reese Thorton hit us with snowballs of rock n roll. INDICA gave us the gift of RETROMODERN Hip Hop. The Lunar Rays "mooned" us with that sweet American sound and the Joker got away. Can1Live drove the Krampus away with beautiful sounds that DJ Spectrum likes to call "Roger Dean Music" and Hot Tub dropped a closing dance party to all a good night.12/09/2019

Hunnypot is the best plate of Thanksgiving food in an Instagram story. Last night was gravy. Hot Tub Johnnie preheated the night with new and classic hits. Matthew Chaim got the crowd pumpkin'd up with pop power. Xharlie Black presented all the R&B trimmings and dropped in the hot tub to talk about his music and life. Communicant had us stuffing our ears with pop hooks. Hung Yung Terrarist got in the hot tub to talk turkey and gave a live performance that grabbed us by the cranberries. Suniel Fox cobbler'd a raucous set of electronic rock music and Hot Tub whipped us with a creamy dance party to finish the night. 11/25/2019
Montreal's Matthew Chaim is captivating audiences with his genre-bending songwriting style and unique vocal tone. Matthew fell in love with the drums as a teenager. But it wasn’t until his early 20’s having graduated university and working a 9-to-5 job in finance that Matthew began writing songs.
Matthew’s first EP, “Homemade”, was written and produced in Montreal with his close friends Noah Barer and Austin Tecks. With ‘Homemade’, Matthew started carving out his emotional and soulful sound, while pulling from his influences at the time, including Drake, Frank Ocean, and Kid Cudi.
Matthew’s sound is now evolving into completely new territories, with his musical influences moving towards the likes of Bon Iver, Coldplay, and Tame Impala. Working closely with LA-based producer Rabitt, Matthew Chaim has begun releasing singles off his upcoming record set to drop Fall 2019.

LA’s newest psych-pop group Communicant bridges the gap between 60’s psychedelia and R&B-tinged indie pop with their debut self-titled LP (due late 2019). Communicant is dynamic - ranging from sunny and colorful songs for leaning your hand out of your car window, to introspective compositions best befitting sitting on your bedroom floor in the dark with headphones on.
The group could easily be the lovechild of Frank Ocean and Tame Impala; lead singer Dylan Gardner’s vocals are silky smooth; a perfect accompaniment to swells of dreamy guitar and shiny glistening synths. Self-produced by Gardner, cocooned in his home studio in Pasadena, his production is utterly fresh; Communicant ’s tunes are filled to the brim with headphone candy and cleverly layered vocals.
The album features contributions from collaborators including Ben Goldwasser of MGMT (“Temporary”), newcomer singer-songwriter Syndie Jo (“New York Times”) and sound designer Mark Gardner. Much of their sound is an undeniable nod to the record collection of a vintage anglophile with a modern reworking. Their vibe grows increasingly more modern on more R&B-leaning tracks like “Better Than Me” and “Exclusivity”.
The lyrics take on themes of impulsiveness, angst, and change through the lens of being the radioactive age of 22. These lyrics against the instrumentals make Communicant ’s music fresh in their world of summer-y anthems, as well establishing that this isn’t your everyday, carefree indie pop group. With the group’s thoughtful melodies, substantial hooks and dreampop elements, they’re the next band in between your headphones.

Everwide is the debut release by Suniel Fox. It is inspired by the idea that anyone can reimagine and recreate themselves. Tragedy struck Suniel in 2009 after an armed gunmen came into Suniel's home in a home invasion robbery. Suniel saved his family, but not before being shot in the neck. The bullet was just millimeters away from striking a vocal cord. After that fateful day, his life and his band - The Surrender, fell apart. Everwide is the first solo music he has released since 2009, and it marks a beginning and a return of his passion and love for music and emotional expression
Rubi Rose is certainly making headway into the music scene proving to be a success by dropping tracks like "Trickin" and "Big Mouth". Her past life as a model appearing in music videos with Migos, LVRN, and Raury catapulted her into the music scene with a fan base already attached to her hip. The number “Hit yo Dance,” had two collabs with Yella Beezy who was rockin’ some pricey bling that might get you thinking-- maybe this guy is shitting hundos. But I digress, NLE Choppa, he likes choppers, I get it. When Rubi Rose began hitting her lines she naturally sounds commanding and ruthless; she gives no fucks and has the power to make all the mediocre men wet themselves. Not only she’s firecrackers on the fourth of July, she is the perfect counterpart to the other two young rappers on this song that arguably has some good clap beats throughout.
Still less glitches that a Disney streaming service launch, Hunnypot Live was a magic kingdom of music and entertainment last night. Hot Tub Johnnie started by slipping everyone musical mickeys. Brian Reyes splashed in with a mountain of a playlist and spoke with us about his past, present and future in the music business with ASCAP and more. XIMXIA (Shem-Shee-Ya) sang a snow white blizzard of catchy pop numbers. Mike Green performed harmonious acoustic pop from infinity and beyond. Grace Blue returned to display her singer sorcerer's apprenticeship magic. Bombay Beach Revival were soul monsters incorporated to entertain and Hot Tub closed the night with Fantaisiastic dance party set.

Brian Reyes is the current Associate Director of Pop/Rock Membership at ASCAP and an accomplished songwriter. His work has been featured in numerous Film and TV projects including Gossip Girl, New Girl as well as international broadcast commercials for brands such as Guinness, Citibank, Microsoft and Paypal. Brian’s current work at ASCAP includes signing new songwriters, producing songwriter workshops/showcases/networking events and finding new ways to help ASCAP’s talented membership reach their musical goals.
XIMXIA (pronounced shem-shee-ya), a versatile Los Angeles singer/songwriter/multi-instrumentalist, tosses handfuls of musical heredity and experience into her sonic swirl—a strikingly original sound rooted in the influence of some of rock and pop’s greatest singular visionaries.
Individuality and poignant self-expression are constants in XIMXIA’s musical universe. The equation works like this—XIMXIA sings her truth and you dance. Fans who can’t help but stamp a label on her music are wise to call it borderless pop.
Growing up in Buffalo, New York, music was about as common as oxygen in XIMXIA’s childhood home. She began studying classical piano as a precocious youngster and was soon writing and singing original songs with her two younger sisters. Before long, she was joining bands and winning over audiences at open mic nights.
Following a stint studying piano performance at Montreal’s McGill University, XIMXIA’s music career landed her in New York City, Washington, DC (where her previous band performed at noted indie rock venue Black Cat), and now Los Angeles—the planet’s biggest pop hub.
XIMXIA is gearing up to reveal even more of her genre-busting truth with a new EP. The lead single “Don’t Follow Me” was produced by #1 Billboard charting producer/writer Ted Kurie and features remixes by Grammy-winning remixers and other notable talent. “Don’t Follow Me” debuted as #50 on the Billboard Dance Club Songs.

Mike Green is an American singer, songwriter, guitarist, and producer. Since graduating from Berklee College of Music, Green has garnered attention in the music industry, having performed in front of artists such as Mick Jagger, John C. Reilly, Wyclef Jean, Maroon 5, Jamie Cullum, and more. Green has had music placed in film and television shows, performed in 30+ countries with international events band The Phly Boyz, as well as provided session guitar and vocal work for many LA-based musicians with world-class credits.
His style has been compared to artists like Coldplay, Dave Matthews, and John Mayer, although Green has found a way to plate his sound differently. His music is a dish of versatility, garnished with powerful choruses and head-nodding grooves. In 2019, his debut album “Restart" is a promising first installment from an artist who clearly has the writing, playing, and singing chops to get the material out of his heart and into a song.

Frequent Hunnypot Live guest Dionne "Diva" Character did a nice write up of our Halloween party show in Data News Weekly.
Party goers came out in full Halloween to celebrate with Hunnypot Live at The Mint LA for its annual Halloween costume party on Monday, October 21st hosted by Hot Tub Johnnie who has given Los Angeles 19 years of spinning on and off stage. Tonight, New Orleans was in the building with my fam Jordan Character AKA J. Character Music which after releasing his hit song "Ariel" on iHeart in Atlanta GA during the A3C festival is taking his career to the west coast.
Character is part of the new generation where artists are earning college degrees while pursuing their dreams in music. He graduated Magna Cum Laude earning a degree in international studies. His career as a rapper took off after performing in Chengdu while pursuing a modeling career in Shanghai. Characters music has proven to be diverse with collaborations with artists from China, London, and Africa. Breaking language barriers, Character in intertwining Chinese and English in his lyrics creating his own sound like those from New Orleans seldom do, setting themselves apart when it comes to music. Tonight also featured Munii Mu who collaborated with J. Character, Binx and Bonavega.
Seems like the front door has been left wide open for this new generation of music, as New Orleans artists are on the rise taking their southern roots to the spotlight introducing the birthplace of Jazz and Funk to more genres such as Bounce, Rap, and Soul. With recognition from BMI and BET, the city of New Orleans embraces its culture of music featuring 5th Ward Weebie, Dee 1, Big Freedia, who are changing our sound on a global level, bringing us closer to the bright lights of Hollywood with collaborations with Beyonce and Drake proving that we bring that Gumbo to all platforms and stages when it comes to music.

Extracting inspiration from Queen, Talking Heads, Led Zeppelin, David Bowie, Duran Duran, Reggie Watts, and The Screaming Headless Torsos, BONAVEGA established himself in 2015 as THE new look and sound of performance based, theatrical pop music. Focusing on entertainment he builds his sounds and songs themes, at his home studio, around ideas and subject matter that are very relatable but then tells the stories in a way that are dramatic and unorthodox in order to captivate the audience.
Underneath his gaudy, ostentatious shell however, BONAVEGA has a deeper, fully aware intention for his seemingly trite "song and dance.” Zeroing in on corruption in the church and mocking bigotry with his sensual, homo-erotic, dance moves, the high society music industry and religious advocates protest his cheeky songs and taunting stage antics. Both sides of the coin feel he doesn’t squeeze into their box and fear his almost flippant disregard for fitting in or following suit. Poised and outspoken, he defends himself as a result of, rather than a cause of, a stifling religious upbringing and a “square” objectifying society.
BONAVEGA, completely aware of the ever changing musical climate, has released genre defying EP's and singles that individually hold their own weight and almost completely disregard one another in a way that continues to push his overly-confident out of the box way of thinking about music and life. The only thing left is the future. BONAVEGA has plans for touring/festivals/and premiers. He asks his followers to keep their ears and eyes wide open for whats to come and to also, as always “Take it off your mind… and take it to the floor."

DIRTY LOVELY CREATURES is an odd mix of sounds. It’s influences range from Germany’s Boozoo Bajou to SoCal’s own Fu Manchu. Chris Brann’s Ananda Project and Shawn Lee’s Ping Pong Orchestra are also heavy inspiration’s for this unusual act. The lyrics center around human secrets, and “the things that people do, when they think no one is watching...” The majority of the songs are written by the group’s frontman, Boogiewhip, aka; lead singer of the Cabaret Rock n’ Roll Show, HOT SAUCE HOLIDAY. And they (mostly) chronicle the thoughts and opinions he carries towards the situations (and people) he witnessed during his “cult” upbringing in Northern California, circa, the late 90’s and early 2000’s.
Cynical and sexy, vulgar and articulate, DLC is a one-of-a-kind music experience you’ve got to hear AND see to believe.
Munii Mu is a Los Angeles based Rapper born in Baltimore, MD and was raised interchangeably between DC and Maryland. After growing up in an environment that did not match up to his vision for the future, Mu decided to move to California at the age of 16 with a new found purpose of chasing his dream to become a globally known artist.
It was there where he met his greatest obstacle yet, prison. The DC raised rapper acknowledges this to be the most crucial time in his life as he used this unfortunate situation to zero in on his dream. Shortly after being released in 2016 he had ignited a burning desire for music and to become the biggest act in Hip-Hop.
On august 11 2019 Munii Mu released a music video called "got em mad" where he speeds up his delivery and showcases his speedly lyrics. This song is also based on his hunger after being incarcerated. In recent months Munii Mu has been locked in the studio working on his upcoming mixtape which is currently untitled. It will showcase his immense vocal range and focus more on the feel good aspects of his music. His next project will definitely be a huge move into the Hip-Hop scene.

The Hunnypot Live community at The Mint has been an absolutely warm, fun, creative and uplifting biweekly that I have had the honor to be apart of. As a music supervisor networking event, each night is carefully curated to have musicians/bands/artists that are on the cutting edge of music showcase their talents.
What the Hunnypot crew has done is create a place for artists, music-lovers and any curious onlookers to come and congregate and celebrate music and artistic expression. There is a mingling of the occasional label and manager that artists come by, but in its purest form, all have come to hear organized and unorganized notes that make bodies move and hearts thump.
All genres of music can be heard at Hunnypot Live. So many great bands and artists have been discovered by new fans. It is a platform that has brought together music enthusiasts to their highest place. It's importance lies in live performance which has been utterly replaced by YouTube and online videos. It brings a community that cares about music together to listen to and discover music together.
