Spin Magazine's Featured Artist DOLL MACHINE mesmerized the dance floor! We twisted to dueling back to back sets by Garage Rock/Surf Guitar legends THE TREMOLO BEER GUT (Denmark/Sweden) and THE BOSS MARTIANS (Seattle).
Co-host was our beloved industry icon THOMAS GOLUBIC´, who rewarded all us minions with his companionship and a Halloween inspired DJ Dance Set.
Spooky! Photos: J. Gray
THOMAS GOLUBIC´ is a four-time Emmy-nominated music supervisor, DJ and twice Grammy-nominated record producer. The Tremolo Beer Gut are from Denmark/Sweden and there touring the US west coast from Seattle to San Diego. A 98% instrumental garage rock/spy surf combo. 5 LPs and a bunch of 45's on the rap sheet. Low maintenance/High performance 4 piece
Formed in a different millennium by Yebo and Sune Wagner from The Raveonettes – later joined by Per Sunding from Eggstone and The Great Nalna (when Sune moved to the states) and Jengo.
Nalna and Yebo has also played with Jon Spencer and Matt Vert - Ray’s Heavy Trash combo, Yebo also with Junior Senior, PowerSolo and Thee Attacks.
All in all a well seasoned and very spicy combo with a lot of garage rock pedigree and a guaranteed hot live show at your party/show/mother’s house.
Fronted by guitar-smashing, soul singing, anthem-writing buzzbomb Evan Foster, Seattle's BOSS MARTIANS are thee Rock & Roll jet boys to look for in 2008! Got Songs?? HELL YES!! At least, that is, according to Rolling Stone's David Fricke who anointed them "rising stars" referencing their addictive hooks, killer tunes, and super-charged performance in 2004 in New York City at Little Steven's International Underground Garage Festival alongside The Strokes and Iggy Pop (among many others!) SPIN Magazine, quick to get aboard, said "The Boss Martians' irresistible 'I Am Your Radio' should make them stars…" regarding the Foster-penned Power Pop instant-anthem. Taking it all over the top at the concert that day was the introduction the Martians received from the "Boss" himself – Bruce Springsteen – to 20,000 people!
Martian History Lesson: Evan Foster (guitar, vocals) and NickC (keys) met as teenagers in Tacoma, WA and discovered a mutual obsession with Garage, Punk, Surf, and Power Pop – basically all things COOL. They both wanted to start a band and take over the world – enter The Boss Martians!! The Martians uniquely combine the primal energy of Punk with the raw, unmistakable sound and swagger of Northwest Garage Rock (think The Sonics!!), English blue-eyed soul (think Small Faces and The Who!!), and the pure pop sensibility of a young, sneering Elvis Costello. Rounding out the band's low end thump and drum-killing bump, respectively, are "Scary" Scott Myrene on bass guitar and the mysterious, Spokane-born, Thomas Caviezel on drums.

Coyote Eyes is the alter ego of New York bred, Los Angeles based multi-disciplinary artist Jo Eubanks, also known as Lily Graves. The classical singer turned goth pop powerhouse is known for her unusual, emotionally charged voice, as well as her razor-sharp lyrics and eerie hooks. Her music is, like her, equally tragic and seductive. She began training as a classical vocalist at age 11, and by 16 she was sparking label interest for “having the pain of a 30 year old woman trapped in a child’s body”.
In 2018, Eubanks debuted the Coyote Eyes project, and after a gut-wrenching performance at iHeart Radio Live Sessions, quickly became known as the “Sylvia Plath of the Lower East Side”.
She sites her greatest influences as 90s film composers like Nellee Hooper, Clint Mansell, Cliff Martinez, and Trent Reznor & Atticus Ross, as well as grunge artists such as Garbage, Nirvana, Bush, and The Cranberries, so in 2020 she retreated to her creative lab with producer to find a way to merge them. Out of this Lily Graves was born. This evocative new project, set to release fall 2022, is filled with lush strings, cinematic soundscapes, and haunting vocals sure to tug at your heart strings and send shivers down your spine. Coyote Eyes is also one half of WTCH, a cinematic pop duo with 4 time Grammy nom Molly Cherryholmes.
Dream Tonic (Kristin Allen-Farmer) is a singer, songwriter, multi-instrumentalist and music producer. In addition to performing and recording, she writes music for various mediums, with her latest tracks being featured in the new Star Wars Galactic Star Cruiser Adventure Hotel in Disney World as well as in the opening ceremonies at the Shambhala Music Festival. She pairs a lifetime of being a classically trained pianist with her love of electronic dance music. Ethereal vocals, warm pads and heavy subs and danceable beats infuse her music, taking the listener on a journey through trip-hop, house, dream-pop and heavy bass music.

Alice Longyu Gao is a Chinese singer-songwriter based in New York and Los Angeles. Longyu means “dragon and universe,” her last name Gao means “Magnificent.” Alice is a professionally trained musician, with piano and voice as her instruments. Along with her academic music background, Alice has made her name in the world of fashion and art, having supplied music for fashion shows and deejaying for Juicy Couture, DIESEL, LVMH/Hennessy, Marian Goodman Gallery, Asia Society, Parrish Art museum, M.A.C Cosmestics, Milk Makeup, Nike, Warner Music Group, A$AP Mob, V Magazine/Charlie XCX, Dr. Martens, NIKE, Coachella/NYLON Magazine, Refinery 29 and PAPER Magazine. Her debut single was a song in Japanese called "Princess of Manifestation".
More recently, Alice released her latest single "Make u 3 Me". The song opens with an increasingly creepy chant of "I'll make you love me" with a growing screeching metal accompaniment. It then transitions into a happier pop-sounding verse. The song tells the story of Alice as a girl who is smitten with a love interest who led her into thinking the interest was mutual but disappointed her when the time came to meet up. The song goes on to tell the interest she would make them love her and details her obsession and determination to do so.
The music video fits the sonic duality between the cute anime girl persona that Alice is dressed as and the crazy obsession in the lyrics. Set on a farm, the video shows Alice frolicking in hay, smiling and playing with alpacas, but also has night shots of her in the dark making psychotic faces and dancing maniacally. Check out the video here!

Upon graduating college in 2009, Alexi went to work at an insurance company. But when he was spending most of his days at his cubicle writing lyrics for what would end up becoming the company song, he knew he was in the wrong place. And he realized that if he could write a love song about an insurance company, he could write about anything.
Called "blue-eyed soul for the 21st century," Alexi is originally from the Boston area but called Philadelphia home for the last seven years, until moving to L.A. in January. He has performed at SXSW 2017, been featured in numerous media outlets like the New York Times, ThisisRnB.com, and soultracks.com, and, after running a successful $12,000 Kickstarter, he and his band executed an innovative, ten city “East Coast Diner Tour,” putting on full, live concerts in mom-and-pop diners from Boston to Atlanta. For his latest project, “Love Odyssey,” Alexi draws upon his father’s Greek heritage by transporting listeners to a world of endless, old school romanticism, with its groove-heavy R&B musical stylings and lyrics that reflect the joy of being in love. With musical comparisons to Robin Thicke and Michael Jackson and album features from hip-hop legend Jadakiss, Grammy Award winner Chrisette Michele, and additional appearances by Amina Buddafly, T3 (Slum Village), and Natalie Stewart (Floetry), Alexi is poised to demonstrate that traditional, heartfelt love songs are not dead.

Los Angeles’ group Electric Lecture are the combined creative forces of Greg Ansin, Bronson Taalbi and Anthony J. Resta The story of Electric Lecture started in 1991, in Massachusetts. Before Bronson was even born., the third member of the group, produced a record called “Secede” for a band called Sleight of Hand. Greg played guitar in that group. They have been friends and making music since that time. Fast forward to 2019, at a Los Angeles club where Ansin asked Bronson ““if he had rehearsal space?” Bronson said, “No.” So the journey began in what would become Electric Lecture and their debut album due out this fall. Compelled by impossible forces, guided by convictions of indifference, the three musicians are about to give a lecture... and it's going to be....... ELECTRIC.
This single “What If,” off the forthcoming self-titled album, out this fall, started from a guitar riff Anthony played one night and recorded on his phone and is a tongue-in-cheek look at conspiracy theories and the terror of “What if....” it all actually worked out. “We try to not take ourselves too seriously,” Greg explains about the songwriting process. “But it's hard not to sometimes. We just want to speak up. So we try to keep the words light with an underlying message.”
The music is a mix of XTC, Tom Petty, and Beck. Each member of the group plays multiple instruments. Bronson handles the lead vocals while Anthony and Greg lend in the background. Recorded at their practice space in Lawndale and Laurel Canyon where there is always music in the air.
The diverse backgrounds of the three musicians are the key ingredient in what gives Electric Lecture its unique flavor. Resta is a multi-instrumental musician having earned twelve RIAA certified gold and multi-platinum awards for bands such as Duran Duran, Collective Soul, and Shawn Mullins. Ansin is a prolific songwriter and film producer, having produced numerous documentaries and horror films including Drive-In Horrorshow and Infinite Santa 8000. Bronson is a multi-instrumentalist and master guitarist. He along with his brother, Preston, are the “Taalbi Brother.” Their energetic music has been featured in shows such as Dancing with the Stars, has been the musical narration in of the most iconic scenes in Breaking Bad.
“ I grew up listening to the Beatles, Tom Petty, the Beach Boys, especially Pet Sounds,” says Resta. I love adventurous sonic innovators like Beck and Bjork. I feel like Electric Lecture is a wonderful vehicle for me to express myself in the purest musical way I can. It's all a dream really.”

Jackie Westfall (MUSIC SUPERVISOR, SuperMusicVision, Noise/Racket & Red Bull), a LA based music supervisor who has worked on hit tv shows (Minx, Sex Lives of College Girls, I Love that for You, 9-1-1 Lone Star, Panic, Halston); mainstream and indie films (Boys in the Band, While We’re Young, Mistress America, Clementine); ads (Apple, Carnival Cruises, Toyota, Grammy Awards) and more. Handling creative to music clearances in record time.
In her spare time, she volunteers for the Guild of Music Supervisors and is always working on a mixtape.
As fearless as she is fiery, Teddi Gold has got enough glitz and glamour to fit right in at a jazz-y underground haunt or on-screen in some Golden Age Hollywood production. Yet, she’s also got the spirit to make a statement worthy of a TED Talk.
She’ll craft a dance floor banger only to shake up the melody with her own foley sound effects. In one breath, she’ll sing about piña coladas and tiny umbrellas. In the next, she’ll ponder the breakdown of a loved one.
Attracting acclaim from The Line of Best Fit, Earmilk, UPROXX, Popdust, The 405, LA Weekly, and more, she continues to shapeshift at light speed. In 2019, the single “Video Games” paved the way for her Vol. 1 EP. In addition to widespread praise, she landed on Spotify’s coveted Fresh Finds and Pandora’s Top Hits Playlist. Pandora’s Next Big Sound also proclaimed her a “promising artist.” Maintaining this momentum, she joined forces with producer Jon Buscema, Drew Alexander and Jack Ventimigilia and further shaped and sharpened her unpredictable and undeniable pop on Vol. 2. Now, the singer and songwriter envisions a wild world as empowered as it is entrancing. She opens this world up with the singles “Confetti” and “Bossa Nova Baby” ft. Mi$HNRZ and more to come.

Summer. A holiday season with its own special competitive spirit. For artists, every release is in contest to be someone’s song of the summer. The get ready, go out, stay lit track that stays on repeat throughout years hottest months, claiming stake in the precious memories of someone’s 2022. Teddi Gold’s early summer submission is a Covergirl sized wink to a game where the participants can touch anything but the floor. And with this beat, you might understand why.
Hitting the dancefloor with “The Floor is Lava” (ft. Coolio) spinning might make you blaze up in a way you didn’t quite mean to, if you’re prone to attempt the moonwalk or busting any sort of daring moves. The bouncy beat slides from one unstable surface to the next, finding balance in spiraling techno theatrics and sultry demands that keep your attention throughout the song. The funky zooms layered with Teddi’s heavy, teasing breath, builds to her squeaking “the floor is lava” before delivering what I would consider to be the hottest feature of the year.
If you don’t ever find yourself wondering what Coolio is up to, then you need to start. Earlier this season, I could not escape “Return of the Mack” and if Mack Morrison can have his revival, Coolio surely is overdue for his day in the sun. His feature shines in “The Floor is Lava”, bringing that signature slick-backed coolness to an icy hot track. His “let’s get campy baby” bar perfectly capitulates the essence of the song. “The Floor is Lava” is a carefree ode to the hot nights, blazing bangers, and refreshing visits with familiar friends that turn the heat up on everyone’s favorite season.

Arizona-based indie rockers Ring Finger No Pinky provide a sound that punches you in the face and challenges society with angry riffs and smart lyrics. Fronted by lead singer Griffin Brown and drummer David Erickson, the pair bring a much-needed energy to jump start the post COVID world.
While channeling revolutionary bands of the past, the rockers add their own unique edge and viewpoint. The Ring Finger No Pinky (RFNP) sound is inspired by The Stooges, Nirvana, Parquet Courts, the Oh Sees, Death Grips, and King Krule. But they are RFNP. You decide.
Although relatively new to the scene, their passion is infectious. They sold out their first shows including playing a coveted Phoenix New Year’s Eve party to a sold-out crowd at Crescent Ballroom.
